http://www.justpushstart.com/2010/08/28/gran-turismo-5-offers-hard-drive-install/

http://neogaf.net/forum/showpost.php?p=23025235&postcount=2855

Hard Drive install is a big issue for gamers who have less space on the PlayStation 3. With Gran Turismo 5 coming very soon, expect a hard drive install when it comes out.

According to Kazunori Yamauchi, the game has an optional hard drive install but to run the game, a 256MB space is required. The amount of space needed for the install is at least 10GB and gamers can expect a smooth experience. If this is indeed true, 10GB is indeed one of the biggest game that has an install on the PlayStation 3.

Check back with us near the release date for more information on Gran Turismo 5.Just Push Start

They should also offer a "Full" install for those who have the space. I've got 240gigs free...

It's an optional install. Also, a neogaf user said that the way Kaz answered the question regarding install sizes, he made a slight implication in different size installs, which is nice.

What the hell! Well, I'm glad I have the space. I want my GT5 experience to be as good as possible. First they make us wait so long, now they make us sacrifice so much memory :P.

Lol, to be fair they aren't "making" you use the 10 gig install. Just to make things clear, that's not the "final" install size, it's just what Kaz has said that's how much that "should be enough" for an install.

Yeah I saw that it was optional. For me its a BIG amount, but I'll do what I have to for the optimal GT5 experience! Also, is Kaz saying there may be larger optional installs? Or just smaller ones? I can smell a 50 gig optional install brewing :P.

That's fail on the PS3 part. Every 360 can be installed to the HDD. Sony be slacking in that. On GT5, meh, GT has been pretty mediocre since GT2, imo.

256 MB is the mandatory install, 10 GB is the optional install, like with Forza 3 for the extra tracks and cars (but i don't know for what it is tho, probably just to decrease load tiems)

Then how are they slacking? Full game install would be around 40 gigs. Kaz has already said that's about how much they have used so far.

Well fortunately, unless you're 12 years old and unable to get a paper-route for 2 months, $60 + tax can get you a 500GB hard drive for your PS3. And even cheaper alternatives if you're willing to settle for less space.

my 2hundo is shaking in its boots. Uh oh.

On a more real note, that size is utterly ridiculous if true, but almost(not quite) understandable.

The only issue here....having to wait to play it while it installs. :P

Nah not an issue...it could be 20g's and that would be just fine.

I bought a 40 gig, I replaced the HDD with a 320 gig though. Bam, problem solved. Of course, not everyone has 60 bucks for a new hard drive, though most people should consider saving up for one.

Most people with a 20 40 or 60g PS3 have either upgraded their HDD's, or they have learned how to manage their space on their HDD's. But, like i and others have said, this 10gb install IS optional.

I know its optional im just saying if what they say is true and the 10Gb install is the best way to go with GT5 then some of the early adopters who haven't upgraded their SKU or their HDD are in trouble.

Edit: Your sig is so awesome :P I cant not watch it.

That's life i'm afraid, you can say the same for many products such as the 360, early adopters had to put up with reliabilty issues, early HD tv buyers may not have the same quality of picture as new HD tvs...

I hate to bring this up, but I think it's def better to have slower load times then to not be able to install the second disc of content that came in the game.

I have a 20GB 360 and DL games to the HDD is impossible so playing games like Mass effect 2 where DL it to the HDD is best for optimal performace was kind of a hastle with the long load times. So I hope the early adopters dont get screwed over by this 10GB install.

It may be an "optional" install... but I assume it will have a huge effect on shortening load times.

I hope its not like Gran Turismo for the PSP, that game also had an "optional" install. The load times were so ridiculously long in GTPSP without the install.

Wow... 10GB install for the "full experience" and yet cows will pass this off, but Forza 3 comes with 2 discs and it's a dumpster fire here.

Ya...i had no opinion about that, but since you bring it up...

2 discs is inconvenient, while an OPTIONAL 10gb install is a breeze...if you can spare the space. Which, many of us cows can spare without blinking.

I have an 80GB PS3 and I'm gonna have to delete some games off the HDD just to get the "full experience." And majority of those games I'm deleting I'm going to HAVE to reinstall them just to play because of mandatory installs. Thanks sony.

Thanks sony.

well you make it sound like your going to have t delete like 10 games. When in reality, what like 3 at the most? When is the last time you played the games you will be deleting?

BTW your sig is funny.

[QUOTE="Sp4rtan_3"]10 Gigs ?? Thats horrible :?Sp4rtan_3

ugh. no it is not.

Many PS3 owners have this space to spare.

But what about the early adopters ? with 20, 40 and 60 GB PS3's ? Slim user's dont have the problem but early adopters do.

Not sure if you knew this, but PS3 owners (any type of console) can upgrade their console up to 500GB+ hdds :P
