Essentially, if you didn't like the lack of enemy variety and objectives in the original nothing here changes that. Dom is still a horrible AI.

If you are a huge fan of the original, you still get that amazing atmosphere, great co-op, and fantastic multiplayer. Three of the best aspects of the original have aged so well.

I still have my Epic developed GeoW1 Collector's Edition and vanilla copy of GeoW (For LAN parties).

Not really surprised as this is a brand new studio and I never have high expectations for new teams. I thought it was a fun game for the time (2006).

I played the GeoW Beta on my Xbone but I was unhappy to see Warzone and Execution weren't featured, and instead saw GeoW3-isms for the MP. Not a great choice imo for original GeoW fans.

I may pick up at $20 or less this holiday season if I manage to get more of my backlog down.

I personally can't get down how remakes are scored. Are they scored as brand new games or based on how much they add/take away from the original?

Haha straight port of God of War 3 gets 8/10 but a completely redone Gears gets 7/10. Because **** LOGIC.

I mean, it figures, it *is* a ten year old game after all.

I was in the GeoW Xbone beta and I saw it too. It looked like GeoW to me with polish, but I had my fill of the game last gen. As I said, I LANed the games up a lot over the years between launch 2006 - current day. I own multiple copies of GeoW1 and 2.

Were you a fan of the GeoW series last gen? I have C.E. versions and own them all.

I don't ever pay full price for remasters of games I own whether we are talking TLOU, GOW, Halo, Zelda WW, GeoW, Sly Cooper, RARE collection, Mario, or Uncharted. I won't do it. I will consider buying them at discount though.

Great deal for those new to the franchise, but not for me.

I haven't ruled the game out entirely as a purchase down the road as I said I would pay $20 or less, but I bought my new machines to play and experience new games basically.

I might get it just to get access to all the other Gears games on Xbox One through BC, the deal is good the rest of the year though, so no rush to run out and get this. But with the other games through BC, that's value enough to get this all for $40. Wish they'd of thrown in a horde mode in this but oh well.

They already gave those other GeoW games out with GWG (save for GeoW2), so that enticement doesn't grab me since I have every GWG game ever released...not to mention I already own physical copies of all the GeoW games as I was a fan last gen.

Good deal for those that didn't have GWG though.

Seriously though the original gears looks terrible so I'm glad it was remade. Best gears campaign too and it's in 60 fps so, sweet. Gonna buy it for sure.

It was a good game in 06, and it is a a good game in 2015.

Hardly a subgenre that has moved away from the ideas kicking around in the original Gears. While the Dom AI hasnt improved, what game gives you a great AI co-op experience. That seems nitpicking of the genre itself. And the multiplayer got just as much attention, if not more than the campaign itself. With an overhauled engine, dedicated servers (something the first one lacked) and DLC and added maps from the other staple games in the franchise.

Well, that's what happens when you remaster the worst game in a subpar series. Was probably too generous

God of War 3R scored better as expected. I did preorder this but there's no denying how crappy this port is.

I was expecting just a resolution upgrade for xbox and they would throw it out on pc too.

well, I did once own the first three but don't anymore, but I'd like them again, especially Gears 2 for its Horde mode, and Gears of War Judgement because I never got to try it

Well, just FYI, GeoW3 (which also had an improved horde) was free last month GWG and GeoW: Judgement was free back in April for GWG.

Not sure if you had GWG back then though, but you may already have the DD GeoW games if you stockpile GWG like a few of my friends do.

I wasn't a big horde fan myself, but I get that others dug it. I did get thousands of points across the series, so definitely a fun game to team up with buds.

@SolidTy: well, thanks for putting that into perspective, no I didn't have XBLG back when they offered Gears 1 & 2 on GwG, but I do have Judgement redeemed I believe, and Gears 3, so I guess if I did pass on HD for now then it wouldn't be a total bust , I don't mind waiting though, it's bound to get some kind of sale digitally before end of year, and if not, no big worry

That could be beneficial in your case if you waited for a sweet $$$ deal by say, Black Friday, because that means you would still pick up the other GeoW titles you missed on GWG since the window for getting the DD GeoW games by Dec 31st this year.

Basically, all you have to do is play Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox Live from Aug. 25 through Dec. 31, 2015.

The ai should have been a priority. I started playing Gears 2 and it was a bit dated, so the first one must be even more so. The biggest problem with the first one, was that the friendly ai was beyond useless. You practically have to drag it kicking to the finish line.

YOU CANNOT remaster or remake this game and not fix it and still hope to have it a success. It was way too big of a flaw.

Not really understanding that. You don't score a game by comparing it to others even in it's own series.

He only named a negative of ai and mentioned a few bugs...hardly see that being worthy of nearly reducing 3 poins of a GOTY winner.

Remember that the reviewer is just an opinion, score doesn't determine if the game is the best or worst, [believe me, if the game receives a low score, it's best to take caution] the reviewers job is to tel you the pros/cons and you, yes you my console/PC playing friend should make that choice if this game is for you or not.

@hood_honky: RE4 was a GOTY winner and that has had points reduced, just like everything else, games age and gaming advances.

What was amazing 9 years ago might not still be GOTY worthy now.

Anyone who has a working internet can clearly see that Gamespot currently has the lowest ranked review score out of all the reviews on metacritic... and the game's metascore is actually a 84... or an 8.4. What a poor score to choose, @Blabadon. like really?

Just because it happened to RE4 doesn't mean I agree. A remaster should really only be judged by the quality of the remaster, not the game. I would agree with s seperate review system fit remaster that basically just say if it's a good fair or bad remaster, based on quality.

However, gears plays as well if not better than most 3rd person cover based shooters today. I imagine the remaster is even better. Re4 however, is definitely outdated as far as gameplay.

Ai acting up in spots doesn't justify a 2.6 point drop in score.

Oh well the reviewer talked about the AI in campaign but I'll be playing this co-op anyways, and mostly for the mp too, so it makes no difference to me. The Gamespot review is the only mixed one out of a total of 22 reviews at Metacritic, so far all the others are positive so it seems overall the game is garnering positive reception.
