Epic games had Gears 3 running on PS3 in 2011, developing alongside the Xbox 360 version. Apparently Cliffy B was confused by the whole thing but Epic games recently cleared things up by confirming it is indeed the real deal. I think the choppiness and generally poor image quality shows that Sony made a mistake in limiting PS3's VRAM to 256mb, but it still looks good considering it's Unreal Engine on PS3.

What do you think about this?

They weren’t “developing” this alongside the 360 version, it was just part of the process of testing the Unreal Engine 3 with Gears of War 3 and Unreal Tournament. Not much of anything here really.

The ps3 had 256mb of vram, but the rsx GPU could dip into the xdr memory as well. The Split memory issue was more about extra developer effort, as well as ps3’s operating system consuming 18mb’s more than 360, after many updates.

Initially ps3 used a massive 128mb for OS!

Man, system wars was fun shit back then.

I'm sure if they would have truly developed it for PS3, they would have gotten it running fine.

Tests for UE3... Meh. Criticizing the PS3 for this is an absolute stretch.

And none of that mattered if there wasn't enough foliage in a multiplatform game.

@chozofication: It's so dense, every single frame has so much foliage going on.

@clone01: Texture quality and resolution likely would've been worse than Xbox360 but I'm sure it would've looked great nonetheless. Gears 3 was a pretty game. It's crazy how much better it looked compared to the first Gears.

I recently played Gears 3 on my Xbox one X in 3D. It was very good but I felt the aiming was slightly off.

@kadin_kai: Playing shooters in 3D always felt slightly off to me. Maybe because each eye sees a slightly different image and at times when your eyes go out of focus there is a ghosting to the reticle and the rest of the image.

Ah yes, maybe that's the reason. I felt the 'off-ness' was horizontal rather than vertical and since its a side-by-side 3D I think you're right.

It was mostly fun, I wish there are more 3D games but I guess not many people have 3D TVs.
