Games with amazing art style

I gotta give a lot of props to 13 Sentinels, the visuals are amazing and very unique. The game itself is also just really unique and cool. Definitely a hidden gem scenario!

Both games run on the Rage engine and both games hold up really well (more than most games) to this day. Terrific art style.

Banner Saga trilogy (see: sig)

Really loving the style of LiveALive.

Similar to octopath, love this upgraded but 16 bit style. Still need to try triangle strategy.

Cuphead art style reminds me of 1930s cartoons: hand drawn animation with the typical visual artifacts.

I second the votes for Mirrors Edge and Splatoon. I’d like to nominate Inside, Mass Effect and that newer DBZ Fighter

That's EXACTLY what they were going for with Cuphead. The team truly did an authentic job with it. In case you didn't already know: the game was in fact hand-drawn and traditionally animated.

Really like the Homeworld design. Always have. This kind of chunky, blocky design that nonetheless made for some really neat looking spaceships.

I like the art direction in games that Viktor Antonov worked on; Half-Life 2, Dishonored, etc. He has a really unique style that I enjoy.

Elden Ring, both Ori games, Bloodborne, Hades, Rift Apart, Darksiders, both Horizon games, Sea of Stars.

Nothing really jumps out from recent games, so I'll just go elden ring.

Cuphead is great visually and animation wise.

Hades has a strong artistic design and color palette.

Elden Ring environmental design and color pallet looked amazing at times. I’d have to stop what I’m doing.

I love the topography of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. The game would look gorgeous on a PS5. Unfortunately…

I love the clean and simple look of Dragon Quest games. Dragon Quest 11 is pleasing to me.

Art just dont get better than this. Nintendo are the gods of art. 100% original, pure art at its finest.

Miyamoto hated the art style!

He hated the art style for Donkey Kong Country on SNES as well because Rare far outclassed his mario sprites at the time.

I think Ubisoft games are generally garbage but I do adore the art of the Ubiart games- Rayman Legends, Child of Light, and Valiant Hearts.

I agree 100% with wind waker, viewtiful joe and super metroid, not sure what that second game is. Man, nintendo games really pushed the boundary on art style graphics back in the day. Got to give them massive props for it too. Wind waker was super controversial back then because the cell shaded style was brand new in 2002/2003 and unfortunately pidgeon holed zelda into being a more "kiddy" game, when it wasn't. Looking back though, im glad miyamoto stuck with it, because even today wind waker is one of the most beautiful games of all time.

Hard disagree on metroid prime. It may have been "artistically nice", but in 2002 it was a graphical masterpiece that stood up to the best looking games on any console, including the xbox og.

@hardwenzen: Sure did, all their games look great from what I've seen. Muramasa is probably their least weird looking game though.

Despite the crap name, I love Slice, Dice, and Rice and think it has some of the best art direction in the medium. Black and white characters spurting bright crimson blood over beautiful, desolate backgrounds. This game and the team that made it deserve more attention.

Also have to shout out King of Fighters XIII for it's unparalleled sprite work. No better example of that than the pants of Kim Kaphwan. Look at those things flowing like amber waves of grain.
