Poll Game Informer says Crackdown 3 was underrated. Do you agree? (54 votes)

Yes, it definitely deserves more credit than it got. 22%
Nah, the reviews were fairly accurate. 50%
Crackdown 3 came out this year?! 28%

Honestly I totally forgot about this game. But Game Informer seems to be adamant that it's not that bad. What do you think, SW? Did you play the game? Have any opinion on it? I just got 2 weeks of Game Pass Ultimate. Maybe I'll give it a try! (not gonna lie, I have Bloodstained and The Outer Worlds still to play).

Why does a game have to break barriers?

Could you name some games this gen that broke barriers and how by breaking barriers it was so much better.

It was fun, but people made it out to be an insult to them or something. It's not enough that we don't think a game looks as good as we think it should, no no no...we have to act like it raped our dog or something.

The amount of negative press it got before release was ridiculous. We gamers can be jerks sometimes. And by "we" I mean all of you....not me.

I wouldn't say 'underrated' is the right word for it...maybe excessively hated.

I think it is somewhat underrated. The game is mainly a sandbox platformer yet most reviewers judge it as a typical open world shooter. It's something that unfortunately happens often in gaming media where everyone follows the same narrative. As a 3d platformer it controls exceptionally well and the sandbox keeps giving you stuff to do at a good pace with satisfying progression. It's not an amazing game but it was some of the most fun I had this year.

Now, if you're looking for 3rd person open world with emotional storytelling better go elsewhere, but don't judge the game in those terms. The only reason I somewhat agree with the scores is because the online is beyond mediocre.

I've said during release that this was a game that with time people would look at it more positively and I still maintain this. Just ignore all the drama that followed the development and don't try to make it be something it clearly isn't aiming to.

Not relevant for the conversation but I think Crackdown 3 would be great on the Switch. There's a 5/10 minute long game loop with a decent variety of challenges that would work great on a portable.

Kinda late to play defense force for this game dontcha think? Yeah, it was a bad game. Garishly designed, a last gen throwback in the worst sense, horrible gameplay loop... yuck. But the reason why it caught a lot of heat is because it was built on a lie. There's downgrades, and then there's complete fallacies. Overselling the multiplayer mode for this game killed it. And the fact this was continued when more promising games were cancelled remains a head scratcher.

Let this game take the L and die. There are other Xbox games that these publications should be pointing to instead. No one should be talking about Crackdown 3 anymore in a year where Gears 5 came out.

No, it's not underrated. It's a bad game. It does absolutely nothing the first Crackdown didn't already do 12 years ago, and it's mechanics are terribly dated. Lock on gun targeting, button basher melee, mediocre driving, glitch jumping up skyscrapers and copy pasted mission design isn't acceptable in a 2019 game. Not to mention they fucking lied about the destruction you could do.

It's only possible to play and enjoy it in the same way it's possible to watch an enjoy a bad film.

That made me laugh. The 45 mins I played had me glitching up walls and getting stuck under ledges. Worse than Ass Creed 1 (2007) in terms of it's traversal system.

And you got all that from 45mins of playing it. Lets be honest here you had a pre-conceived idea about the game before even playing it.

Yet you praise a game where all you do is walk from one destination to another while pressing buttons to walk upright lol.

No, I got all that from 5 minutes of playing it actually. But I wanted to see if there was enough Terry Crews in it to justify suffering through the shit gameplay. There wasn't.

I had a pre-conceived idea that a 2019 game would be superior to it's 2007 predecessor, yes. It wasn't.

I didn't even have to pay for it, got it free on game pass, still wasn't worth suffering through. Garbage.

Oh 5mins, and yet you played it for another 40mins to see more Terry Crews lol, most people play games to have fun, maybe you should try it, now I understand why you like DS, its because its not fun, you were probably playing it to see more Norman Reedus.

I thought C3 was a solid game made by a different team that created the first, and i'm not sure why it needs to be better than the first game, all it needed to do was be as fun, and while it wasn't as fun as the first doesn't mean it was a failure.

For me there were no game breaking bugs and ran well and I had fun with it. That's all that should matter.

It was fun for a few hours here and there, but if you've played the other Crackdowns it gets boring pretty quick. It you are new to the series it would probably have more entertainment value and be quite enjoyable.

Crackdown 3 was a solid game but could've been more if MS put more efforts into it. Campaign is great! Multiplayer however, not so much. Crackdown 3 had one of the most convoluted developments of the gen and the final game doesn't even resemble the first demo they showed gamers at E3 2014 and you know the rest.

The game sucked and failed to live up to the promises.

Microsoft has a history of making low budget games with the worst talent in the industry. Seems like they hire any loser straight out of high school who took a week class of C++ and thinks they can make games.

Crackdown 3 was somehow overrated. How that game showed well internally I will never understand. Every penny spent on that game was wasted.

Maybe GameStop is just trying to give customers a reason to come pick up a copy (like they have too many and need to get rid of them), after all it is their magazine I wouldn't put it past them after that whole Metroid Trilogy debacle that they'd stoop to such a low.

I was looking forward to the game as I was s fan of the original, but did that thing I do where I sold my game system before it came along.

The game did get nothing but criticism and I wasn't sure why. It sounds like that's because the game plays like the first Crackdown. I fail to see how that is a bad thing, personally. Maybe one day I'll get to play it. The ability to play the game as Terry Crews is a great bonus.

Having never played a Crackdown game, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I think the initial reveal killed the impression of the final product.

I think it was accurately rated as extremely average for a game that might come out 10 years ago.

Its good to see that some people get it. Yes it does play like the first, but it adds a few new things the first didn't, but people seem to be stuck complaining about teh "graphics" and the fact that the MP destruction is not what it was first shown 5 YEARS AGO.

The game went through development hell switching devs etc, and sure MS could of communicated the changes a LOT better, but a LOT of people seem to be hating on the game because of MS's silence on the MP component until late in development.
