Game Informer: "Suddenly the PS3 doesn't sound too overpriced"

Direct quote from Game Informer April 2007 Magazine:

"It's a shame we all bought the supposed 'premium' Xbox 360 already, but the extra space is very welcome for multimedia purposes. HDMI isn't too huge, but at least it'll give Sony one less PS3 stat to brag about. As far as the price tag for the 120GB goes, what a rip-off! In two minutes online, I found a 500GB PC har drive for around the same price. Plus, when you add the price of an HD-DVD drive to this black box, you're looking at $680. Suddenly the PS3 doesn't seem so overpriced."

Xbox 360 uses 2.5 inch laptop hard drives. The one the guy found was a 5.25 inch hard drive, which are cheaper than laptop hard drives. If you have an adapter , of course you can use the PC hard drive. But Im guessing most people dont, so its fruitless to look for PC hard drives for something that isnt compatible with them.nytrospawn

    Uh, doubt it. When the switch happens (since its been delayed many times) the government is going to buy boxes for everyone so that SDTVs will continue to work and recieve signals.

    If you are saying its only due to digital, then I am forced to point out that DVDs are digital, as are the downloads that are becoming more and more popular every day (with IPTV and Apple TV coming, its only getting bigger).

The PS3 is very cheap if your considering what your getting. People dont get that for some reason.

that works but you stll have to buy the hdd...which means that your spending 20$ extra....which once you get above 100-150 dollars i guess that doesnt make much of a difference...but can you use it on the ps3?...i mean it doesnt matter much but i guess that way it would be an easier way of transfering stuff from console to console

Bluray isnt useless... Its being used for games. But will rarely get used to its full potential. Rarely, maybe. But it is being put to use in: Final Fantasy 13 Metal Gear Solid 4 Resistance (launch title) And like mark said, soon games will be well over 20GB. MS Flight simulator is 20 GB (Was it 20? I think it might have been 14...)bloodlust_101

Compression is great though. It makes data fit into smaller spaces.

+ $270 for online. Unless you want half the experience that PS3 users get. But, you are getting significantly less of an experience already, what with no HD movies and everything... So maybe you dont want a good experience with a console. Lets not forget buying extra controllers, AND the charger kids. But you dont want that do you? I mean, its OPTIONAL isnt it? You prefer a stripped down experience. Playing alone in a basement, noone there to enjoy a fullfilling experience with. But wait! On the plus side, you prefer to play 100% by yourself. So at least you wont need to see a long wire moving through your house, because you aint got no wifi.

its also takes time to decompress....but due to constantly newer tech. (not interms of media storage) that doesnt seem to be much of a problem nowadays

to be fair LIVE is the console online servce that is the standard....if it wasnt sony wouldnt have been pushing HOME....they wouldnt have any reason to

    See, I have a gaming system for games. If I wanted a movie player, I'd buy one. As for the fee for Live, I gladly pay it in order to get a streamlined, unified experience that allows for more games to be played online. I don't see how cows can continue to bash paying for Live when Virtua Tennis just showed, convincingly, why paying a relatively small yearly fee is beneficial. 360 owners can play Virtua Tennis online, while PS3 owners cannot.
