It's a big day for news about upcoming Xbox One racing game Forza Motorsport 6.

Microsoft has announced that the game has gone gold, meaning development on the project has finished. The racer launches on September 15, but people who buy the $100 Ultimate Edition can play September 10.

Everyone will be able to play earlier than that, however, as Microsoft will release a free Forza 6 demo for Xbox One on September 1. The demo includes a "selection" of the game's 460 total cars, though a specific lineup of vehicles for the demo was not announced. The demo also includes night racing and wet weather, and runs at 1080p/60fps, just like the full game.

In addition, everyone who plays the Forza 6 demo will receive an extra free car in the form of the Ford GT for the full game. Microsoft will announce more details about the Forza 6 demo in the coming week.

Finally, Microsoft has announced 10 more cars for Forza 6. With these 10 cars, Microsoft has completed its car reveals--you can see all 460 cars (the biggest launch-day lineup in franchise history), along with the full lineup of tracks and more, at the Forza website.

The latest mile marker on the road to Forza Motorsport 6’s launch has arrived: We’ve gone gold! In two weeks, Forza Motorsport 6 will be available to play via early access for owners of the Ultimate Edition. Five days later, Forza 6 will be unleashed to everyone! Before the full game launches, however, fans will have the chance to experience the thrills of Forza Motorsport 6 in the official free demo for the game, which launches on September 1.

The Forza Motorsport 6 demo will let players experience the most beautiful and comprehensive racing game of this generation, named “Best Racing Game” and “Best Simulation Game” of gamescom 2015. The demo features a selection of the 450+ Forzavista cars available in the full version, all with working cockpits and full damage. You’ll experience highlights from the game’s 26 world-famous locales, including wet weather and night racing, all at a stunning 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second.

Everyone who plays the Forza Motorsport 6 demo will automatically get the new Ford GT delivered to their garage in Forza Motorsport 6 for no additional cost. Brand New Cars

When you first think of Mercedes-Benz, you may be drawn to the lavish luxury the brand is renowned for. But with the company’s recent dominance in Formula One (F1) – where its “Silver Arrows” are poised to capture a second Constructors’ Championship in a row – it’s clear Mercedes can do performance too. But what about both? Mercedes’ new AMG GT S balances the two disciplines, with equal doses of F1-like speed and la-z-boy luxury. Under the AMG GT S’s sleek hood sits a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing more than 500 horsepower. Tracks in Forza 6 include a mix of real-world circuits and fictional tracks based on real locations. Each of the real racing circuits in the game has been carefully chosen because of its stature on the world stage of motorsport, as well as its fun and challenge. In addition, we have brand new tracks like Rio, which have been created specifically to create a one-of-a-kind driving experience for the player, full of stunning beauty and excitement.

Racing in the Rain

No matter how fast you think you are, the rain will humble you. There’s a reason they call rain “the great equalizer” – it’s enough to bring even the greatest racers down to earth. It’s where the smallest errors are magnified a hundredfold, and where the greatest risks can be the difference between victory and an embarrassing spin.

With Forza Motorsport 6, we’ve brought rain to life; simulating the experience of not just how rain looks and sounds but, most importantly, how it feels. Fully modeled 3D puddles lurk on wet-weather tracks, waiting to pounce on your car like hungry sea monsters. Get an apex wrong or dip a tire in the water, and you’ll feel the puddle pulling your car deeper into the wet.

Perhaps the most challenging aspect of racing in the rain is relearning the course. After all, your racing line changes in wet weather – where once there was an apex, there might be a puddle, and you’ll need to react and relearn your racing line in order to find the fastest (and safest) way around the track.

Each of the wet-weather tracks in Forza Motorsport 6 have been selected because of their close ties to rain racing. Whether its U.K.-based circuits like Brands Hatch or Silverstone, or famous endurance racing tracks like Spa or the Nürburgring (the latter of which features more than 500 accurately placed puddles!), these locations will test your mastery of the car, the weather, and yourself:

Racing at Night

Racing makes demands of the driver in an entirely different way. Call it bravery, chutzpah, or sheer will , driving at ludicrous speeds when all you have to guide you are a pair of headlights and, if you’re lucky, the brake lights of the cars ahead, requires race drivers to go above and beyond what is already expected of them.

The same is true in Forza Motorsport 6. Whether you are careening down the back straight at Le Mans or navigating tight traffic on Daytona, night racing in Forza Motorsport 6 requires you to use your driving skills in new ways. We’ve taken inspiration from different variations of night, too. After all, racing under the neon lights of the Viceroy Hotel at Yas Marina is a very different experience from battling it out in the darkest depths of Sebring. With reduced grip thanks to the cooler track temperatures, you’ll experience a unique challenge in each of the night-racing tracks in Forza 6:

ive always found forza to not have enough low end cars. i know the majority want to drive ferrari's and super gt cars, but i am and have always been a honda guy and forza has never fulfilled that. not even gran turismo
. at least forza doesnt have a million suzukis though...

I've never been a huge fan of racers, and I believe the last racer I bought was Forza 2, but this one may tip me over the edge.

I'm really into car culture and appreciate their beauty/engineering.

I'm glad to see they are accepting so many lower end cars, that's the thing i love about Racing games with diverse car lists, you can drive something quirky, then make it into a absolute track monster.

gamespot has been weird with forza reviews.. according to gamespot:

I'm thinking FM6 will be like the jump from FM2 to FM3 and will be nearly impossible to mug the game with a low score even from GS lol

they've already mugged (and all other websites too) the AAAA deserving FH2 without any flaws.. i can't ask anymore from that game lol

Yeah, said it myself, FH2 is a solid 9/10 and perhaps 10/10. It's freakin loaded with content as well and heck, I'm holding off on FM6 Only because I still have a million things to do in the game and have yet to even finish FH2 Fast and Furious that was given to me for free, thank you based T10. :P

Man, seeing the car selection kinda makes me wish I actually had an Xbone for the game. Forza is one of the few IPs from MS I really enjoyed.

I haven't played it but that would be nice. But from what I hear it's not as close as I'd personally like it (i.e. actually Forza Motorsport/Horizon on PC, lol).

@Ant_17: PCars is nothing like Forza. No customisation, no unlocks etc. sure it's better looking but it's not as fun.

The hype got to me so finally I freakin made some time to game and finished Fast & Furious and put a pretty good dent getting a lot more done in FH2 so perhaps I may be ready for FM6 at launch or shortly there after. This gonna be gawd. :D

Saweetness, thanks for the heads up, I did not know that.

I just can't get into simulation racers. I've tried. Forza Motorsport 6 looks so good. I recently rented Project Cars to try and easy myself into them once again, but it was a bust. I just can't get over ow the machines fucking drive in the games compared tot he arcade and kart racing games I have been playing for the last 30 years. Game looks beautiful though. Can't wait for Horizon 3.

@isturbo1984: Try semi-sim like the Grid games or the new DIRT on PC.

It's not hard to get into it , but starting with FM is really hard.

I started with Colin Mcrea 2 so moving to GT was really hard at some point.

@Ant_17: Hmm. good advice. i've heard good things about grid and dirt. what are your thoughts about the upcoming Sebastien Loeb Rally Evo?

Loeb is in the ranks of Mcrea and Burns , so there is no way this will be a bad Rally game.

And the dev has been making bike games and the latest WRC game, so unless my theory is wrong , this will be like Colin Mcrea 3 and kill it.

@isturbo1984: Well , i have WRC 4 on the Vita and it's really fun.

But it's not semi-sim , it's full sim.

Milstone are based in itali , so the Moto GP games are the greatest bike sims you can get.

I guess i should say that only Codemasters Rally games are semi-sim , where as official WRC games are Rally sim.
