Final Fantasy 8 turns 25 years old!

This game has a lot of mixed reviews from fans, I think due to “junction” system. But for me, It was my favorite Final Fantasy game for a long time. I remember being blown away by the graphics. They were very detailed for its time and it didn’t have the block characters models of Final Fantasy 7 lol. The music was and still is really good as well. Also can’t forget the sword guns lol. You could trigger the gun while slashing your sword. I think lastly, it wasn’t like Final Fantasy 7, which I appreciated. What about you, SW? Did you enjoy Final Fantasy 8? Where does it rank for you among the all time Final Fantasy games?

Rebirth will create a Great Salt Lake. And it happening during their favorite company going third party, i mean, this is just too much for most to handle.

I still believe 8 was the best game in the series.

Excellent game and probably my fourth or fifth favourite FF game. The Junction system is definitely the most divisive aspect. I didn’t mind it myself. Really enjoyed the story and it was a pretty epic journey throughout its vast game world. Some very cool optional bosses. The card game is still one of my favourite mini games.

The soundtrack was very good too, the instrument samples used were a step up from FF7.

I loved FF8 more than FF9.

That game was interesting then it became too long. I liked the feel of the world. If I am to play it now, it may feel very different.

Hate that game. Junction system is horrible. The man with the machine gun soundtrack is dope though.

Probably not a popular opinion, but this is by far my favorite FF. The story is so, so good. The characters, the world, the complexity of card/spell/stat junction, lovely. I've done literally everything you can do in this game.

I love FF8 bit more than 7. Maybe because i played 8 and 9 before playing 7 back then. The amount of times i restarted playing just to get all GF's and Cards. I still playthrough it every 2 years

Hated it for some reason, loved and completed ff7,9,10,13 but could never bring myself to give one **** about ff8…

I liked it for what it was. I brought the remastered version on a Steam sale a while back but haven't played it yet. The junction system was very tedious but the PC version helped with the 3X speed up feature. My only real gripe I had with the game was the story. I kind of picked up on the twist far too early but that's more of a personal gripe and not a general statement for the game.

Still waiting for the FF7 style PS5 remake of FF8. Would be day one buy for me.

Never played it! What is the Junction system? Sounds spicy !

Fantastic game. Loved the junction system and all the GF abilities. Triple Triad was fun and turning cards into magic and other items gave the player so much freedom to break the game.

As much as I would love to see a remake, I'm afraid they would go the action route like FF7 and really kill the charm of the game.

Didn't like it.

Some great music. Cool world. Gunblades were cool (sadly i think Square hve a copyright on the idea so no one else can use it :( ), graphics were a nice upgrade from 7 and character designs were better.

But story, from what I can recall, was very meh. I really can't remember much after the first disc. Combat system was very poorly thought out.

Yeah not a great follow up to 7.

FF8 is underrated. The draw system was frustrating and the main story became a trainwreck later on. But it has strong points that more than make up for these flaws:

Laguna's flashback story has some of the best storytelling in the series. That should've been the main story instead of the Squall story.

The junction system had depth and can be addictive.

The card minigame is one of the best minigames in the series.

It has one of the greatest video game soundtracks of all time.

And the pre-rendered CGI backdrops and FMV still look beautiful.

Overall, FF8 is still one of the stronger FF games. It's certainly better than most of the FF games that came after FFX.

Still my favorite Final Fantasy alongside FFX. Would love a remake but that ain't happenin.

The worst RPG I have ever played.

FF8 is the most memorable final fantasy for

me. I would love to have them remake this. I feel lime combat with gunblade offers so much flexibility. They just need to throw the junction system.

Happy Birthday FF8, but FF5, FF6 and FF7 were much better games. The junction system made battles way too easy. Just use meteor for junction and you are impossible to beat.
