Having been out the Nintendo wave since N64, I've missed out on a WHOLE lot from those guys. Always thought of coming back to the Nintendo but never was sold on anything really. Skipped on the Wii and have been contemplating the purchase of a Wii-U. Since the "Wii-U is the most terrible console out now" (according to some guys on here) I figured let the Wii-U library expand while I pick up a 3DS and catch up on some semi-modern Nintendo gaming to partner up with my PS4. Was this a wise decision? X)

Yes, the 3DS is awesome, especially if you missed out on the DS like I did. Soooo many games

Great decision. You get the DS and 3DS library all at once.

Exactly. Lot of great titles and dirt cheap.

You mean both 3DS and DS games?

Uhhhh... okay, to narrow it down a little, what kinds of games do you like?

That's cool. I might be getting one for $50. Badass. Can't wait to play Mario and Luigi. Here's a list if you want it of games I want to play:

Mario and Luigi Partners in Time

Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Pokemon X/Y (it's amazing)

Fire Emblem

Super Mario 3D Land

Luigis Mansion Dark Moon

Mario Kart 7

Paper Mario Sticker Star (maybe! I really didn't like it when I borrowed it for a bit; it abandoned everything I loved about the earlier Paper Marios)

Donkey Kong Country Returns

New Super Mario Bros 2

Maybe Etrian Odyssey 4 (although I wasn't crazy about it--prefer Grimrock)

the only game that interests me on the 3DS is ALBW, sadly I don't think one game alone can justify me purchasing a 3DS.

That's a tough call

Wii U has access to Wii, N64, SNES, NES, Sega Genesis, etc games

3DS has access to a select a growing library of virtual console games (primarily Gameboy, Gamegear, and NES right now) as well as the entire DS library.

But perhaps you've played all the old games you've wanted to.

It was a great choice, of the 7th gen, the DS had the second strongest library, only beaten by the beast that is the PC. And the 3DS can play every DS game too.

Kid Icarus: Uprising is my favorite game on the 3DS, it averted pretty much everything I hate about modern shooters, so no health regen, no brogamer speak and no goshdarn cover based shooting. You avoid damage by jumping out of the way, not by ducking behind cover :D

3DS has a better software lineup than my PSV. Odd how Sony is doing everything right with PS4 and everything wrong with PSV.

I'll have to borrow my daughter's purple 3DS to play the new Zelda.

@HoVDaHuSTLa1: 3DS games I've got:

Shin MEgami Tensei IV, Fire Emblem Awakening, Pokemon Y, Mario and Luigi Dream Team, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Tales of the Abyss and Virtue's Last Reward. I'd recommend them all except Scribblenauts; instead buy Super Scribblenauts on the DS instead, it's awesome.

As far as DS games go... Too many. Some of my favorites are Knights in the Nightmare (research that one, I love it but it's complex as hell) nine Horus Nine Persons nine Doors (the predecessor to Virtue's Last Reward) Solatorobo, Zelda Spirit Tracks, Chrono trigger, the Castlevania trilogy (Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia) final Fantasy IV, Dragon Quests V, VI and IX (IX especially).

Just getting all those games alone will last you a good long time.

yup. unless you need the smaller size do go for the 3DS XL. the normal 3DS has a few issues with build quality (though maybe that has been improved a lot since i got mine which was just after the price cut).

but lots of quality gaming on the handheld and if you havent played a DS then...well...may want to free up a shelf or two...or 10 :).

Since you missed out on all the DS and 3DS titles. You're in for a HUGE treat. Considering the DS is the 2nd most sold console ever, and the 3DS is selling like hotcake atm. You know the games are there.

To answer a couple questions asked, I'm into of course all type of Mario's but always had a huge heart for RPGs. Pokemon was none stop fun on Red/Blue. Never as able to pick up a hand held Zelda. After seeing some of the suggestions I researched Castlevania and wow lol. Might enter that madness very soon. Strange no one mentioned China Wars? Is it a yay or nay?

Also, already own a 5s with tons of games. I really really prefer actual buttons (call me ol skool). I feel Android has a win with the MOGA controller pad.

@HoVDaHuSTLa1: What are you waiting for? lol The 3DS caters to RPGS. Everything you said is what the 3DS is all about in that post...

Chinatown Wars for the DS is a good game, but not in the same vain as other GTAs.

Chinatown Wars was easily the best GTA since Vice City, at least for me. And if you love Mario and love RPGS....ever heard of the Mario and Luigi and Paper Mario series? Mario and Luigi dream team looks amazing! If you're gonna play Castlevania, play the DS ones--Portrait of Ruin and Dark Shadows ? ....whatever the first DS Castlevania was called.

YEAH YEAH! Got my ass my friend's black 3DS for $50!!

....now I just have to renew my subscription for gamefly, because there's no fucking way in hell I am paying $40 or more for a little handheld game after having been the PC space for so long. DayZ isn't even $40. Also, for those more familiar with the Nintendo 3DS store: how often do they have steam-like sales?

Steal like sales? LOL. Never =p

They do have sales on titles every now and then, but they're never that massive. More like 2-30% off on games. 40% if you are really lucky. And it's only a few games at a time.

Currently, Nintendo is supposed to be having a Christmas sale for the eShop, but it has not been announced for the US yet.
