I am forced to ponder: How many Wii's would have sold if it was packaged with a standard controller? I'm guessing not much. We know that what didn't sell the Wii was power. We also know that graphics also did not play an important part.

But what about the games?

Well, how many AAA games were available during launch? And were any of these games the start of a new franchise?

It is quite apparent that a gimmick controller is what cleared the game store shelves. If the Wii used a standard controller, we would be looking at the Gamecube all over again.

Well, besides the controller and sales, we practically are.

if it had a standard controller, its power would probably have been close to the 360's or ps3's.

It was the new method of playing games along with Wiisports that sold the Wii to most Wii owners. I myself bought one for Metroid Prime 3 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

If Nintendo had decided not to go with the Wiimote and a new way to play, they would have upgraded the hardware to PS3/360 or beyond and had no third party support and probably go out of business... or stop making consoles and just make games like Sega. They are using the Wii to help push console gaming forwards and preventing it from stagnating and next-gen will surely do what they can to bring the most hardware power, along with a new controller (based on the Wiimote's design with a few additions/changes), the newly acquired third party support all for as low a price as they can.

I think the thing is that the Wii-mote.......costs less than $40 to make.........and that's it's main selling point. While the whole unit costs $250. The 360 itself ..........costs probably over $300 to make. And the thing costs $400. I see the point. But I think the point he's trying to get across is that the system sells solelybased off a peripheral.

It's the gimmicky (?) aspect of the Wii that sold the console. If the other console manufacturers found way to to nullify it, the Wii would be serious trouble.

but then Nintendo would've gotten exactly what they wanted: a gaming revolution.  Sony has already done a half assed job of copying the Wii-mote and Microsoft, I bet, is going to reveal something like it at E3, so nintendo would've got the gaming revolution that they wanted.  And I don't think MS and Sony can beat Nintendo on it's home turf.

The other systems have USPs (Unique Selling Propositions) while the WIi doesn't. It only has the Wii-mote. The thing about it is....when you (and I) boughta Wii it was because of the Wii-mote. It wasn't because of the amazing HD graphics, it wasn't becuase of online multiplayer, it wasn't because of having an HD format included, hell it wasn't even because it had the ability to play DVDs......it was for the Wii-mote.

Wii cost less than 250 to make. Nintendo makes money selling the ACTUAL CONSOLE

360 cost MORE than 400 to make, they lose money selling the console in hope to make money on other things such as games.

It doesn't matter if my selling point is cheaper than your selling point.TC is basically saying"If the Wii didn't have its main selling point, then it wouldn't sell!"

Interesting thought, but I don't think nintendo sees a 3D mouse a gaming revolution. I think their revolution is the simplicity and the accesabillity of the wii. It's sleek and easy to use design, and it's pick-up-and-play games designed to introduce gaming to non-gamers. I don't think PS3 or 360 will manage the same success as the Wii with a similar controller, since they still miss all the other factors for introducing casuals and non-gamers.

By your faulty logic, If I said "If the Red Sox had a shortstop that could hit for a better average, they might have a couple more wins."

You would say....

"So, you mean if the Sox had Derek Jeter, they might have some more wins."

Stop making this something that it isn't about.

From what I've seen Nintendo could care less about a a gaming revolution as long as they get more money in their pockets. The Wii-mote isn't cut out to be what it was suppose to be.

Furthermore, Microsoft and Sony don't necessarily have to have something like the Wii-mote to nullify the gimmicky aspect of the Wii. All they need is a strong gimmick of any kind.

Last-gen, one of the major reasons why the PS2 so so well was because of it's DVD player, something I deem a gimmick. It was the first console to come out with something like that; thus, it was the first to take full advantage of it and the first garner a great deal of the recognition. When the Xbox came out with a DVD player, the DVD gimmick had already been done, with PS2 soaring in its popularity.

This generation, the media player in a console gimmick has little to no value. Its gimmick value has been nullified. It's almost as expected as a console's controller. Now the Wii has a gimmick of it's own, a gimmick that no one has ever seen. It's soaring in it's popularity. Even if the other console manufacturers did come out with their own Wii-motes, the Wii has most likely taken the show. The Wii has gained all (if not most) the recognition associated with the gimmick. But the other manufacturers shouldn't give up to come up with new gimmicks. It wouldn't hurt that bad even if they did come out with their own Wii-motes.

All they need to do is to nullify the gimmick in the Wii-mote, even by a little bit.

[QUOTE="HarlockJC"]You are right..... But then again I rather have the Wiimote which I have had a ton of fun with than just graphics any dayMikeE21286

AWWW....the poor PS3/360 owners having no fun. Why do people say these things

Cause 360 and PS3 owners say that the Wii is no fun?

No, it's because sheep say that the only fun can be had via the Wii-mote.
