Well i have. And quite alot actually. But i would say it was when i was younger (of course not now) but theres been countless times where ive seen a good looking boxart for a game (without looking at the back) and just bought, when i was young. Some bad but ive mostly made good decisions. The best being

I really loved the game butlooking back, the box artis not even that good, i cant even explain why but at the time i was just absorbed by it. And i guess my love for mechs helped a bit too.

How bout you guys?

No this never happened to me. I have made game buying decisions based on the screen shots on the back of the game box though.

Actually, I really like this game! I thought it was a pretty good fighter with lots of characters.

I bought plenty of N64 games based on boxart when I was young, such as superman 64 and clayfighters 63 1/3. Both terrible decisions.

When I was younger, yeah. Back when there weren't many gaming mags, and I was too young to care.

I just knew Nintendo = Quality

Mario = Quality

Anything similar I would probably enjoy.

I remember getting Yoshi's Island for my Bday, which turned out to be a good decision.

Whoops, kind of said that wrong. I absoloutely loved the game but now when i see the box art, its actually pretty crap. But the game was great, jam packed with content and had robust gameplay.

Is that some badass Bomberman?!

Cellpwn

hahaha, oh my. The sad thing is, i was a heavy bomberman fan back in the days so if i saw that i probably would have got it. Badass man.

One of the biggest let downs for me. I actually completed both Jak and Daxter and Jak II earlier this year. Comparing it to last gen, Mario Sunshine was better IMO.

I did this more when I was younger and surprisingly some of my favorite games have come this way.

I picked up Snatcher for the Sega CD at a pawn shop. Holy crap, it's the first time I ever really felt immersed in a game (it's by Kojima if you didn't know).

I also picked up Landstalker for the Genesis, it was awesome.

The worst game I have ever picked by just looking at the box art was Art of Fighting for the SNES. The worst part about it was that I had traded all of my games at a Funcoland and used the credit to pick up Art of Fighting. I remember feeling sick that night when I realized I had traded a handful of amazing games for some crappy fighting game.

You;ll hate me for saying this. but I hardly played it. :(

Oh and also

It wasn't cheap, but it was worth it for the box art alone.

Yeah when I was younger when I didn't have access to internet, and a gaming magazine was a frickin' treat. It was harder to be informed in those days.

Kinda related,

If I see an old school, big cardboard boxed PC game, I buy it. Period. I just buy it. I don't care what game it is, what genre it is, I buy it. The only exceptions are sports games, MMOs and casual games (they're the only genres that I refuse to touch anyway.)

Man I miss those old boxes, I wish I were old enough to buy games back then.

I needed to pick out a game for my birthday back in '03 or '04. I was aiming for Mortal Kombat Deception Deluxe Edition, but then I realized that Splinter Cell Chaos Theory was out. I was like...hmmm...yeah, I should probably get Chaos Theory. Then I saw God of War, which I had never heard of, and I saw the quote of IGN giving it a 9.4 or something, plus it had a really cool box art. I bought God of War. Turned out to be one of my favorite games ever.

Yea it's a bit plain but the giant mech and the name got me. I was sold, it was pretty damn fun.
