"On the other hand, me and [Yoshiaki] Koizumi-san, director of Galaxy, are always looking to challenge Galaxy and do another 3D action title," Miyamoto continued. "However we can't make so many games at once in parallel.

"But as the hardware technology gets better and advances, I think there will be a lot of opportunity for both options."

When asked what extra hardware power would be needed - and whether this meant Nintendo would now wait for its upcoming NX console - Miyamoto was coy:

"Wii U's definitely good enough in terms of hardware performance, it is more the workload of the team. If you look at Star Fox Zero, the TV and GamePad are both rendered in 60 frames, so in total that's 120 frames. It's really just a matter of the CPU speed [char insert- Wii U CPU is known for being horribly weak and low frequency] at this point."

What does this mean? Super Mario Galaxy 3 for NX?

It's looking that way, but I wouldn't be entirely surprised if it made its way to the Wii-U.

Really, my concern is how they plan to top Galaxy 2. That game was just impeccable.

A silky smooth and HD Super Mario Galaxy? It would be the killer app Nintendo could use to give the NX the edge. Especially if it is a launch title.

Man, Ninty is (hopefully) setting itself up for a massive software launch for the NX (hopefully all over the course of a year or so to space things out). Pikimin 4, Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Dragon Quest 11 (though they can't control this one) and likely more in store.

Will it really flesh out? That's the question.

Though if it does, I'll be one of those who'll be quite disappointed in Nintendo if they do.

NX will be off to a great start if this is true.

If there are new ideas and concepts that they feel they need to explore, I'm all for it. Do not let commercial or fan demand influence your decision.

Star Fox looks like shit, so bad example Miyamoto. But I'd like a new Mario Galaxy.

Where does it say Galaxy 3? Sounds more like a 3D Mario is in the works, thats it. Also seems to coincide with people thinking Nintendo is prepping must have titles for the next console launch.

It'll be Mario Galaxy 3 for the NX... and iOS and Android, free to play with pop up ads between levels.

More from the article.

[A new Mario Galaxy] is always in discussion. But even with Mario 64 there was a lot of feedback about motion sickness with the 3D or maybe us making it too difficult.

Going back to our roots and making New Super Mario Bros., anyone can play that. So that's why we went back.

We're always thinking, is there a middle ground where people who do enjoy the 3D worlds of Galaxy and those who enjoy New Super Mario Bros. can both enjoy it? We're always looking at those opportunities.

Good.

Super Mario 3D World was bitterly dissapointing to me. Not a bad game at all, but felt like a sequel to/mix of Mario 3D Land and New Super Mario Bros. The isometric/2d perspective, short linear levels and clear focus on 4 player multi (just look at the fixed camera angles) really made the game feel limited and off colour for me. That one single level with a bit of a big green field (rabbits scooching around) felt like an ungodly, mocking tease.

A Galaxy 3 on NX with proper behind the back 3rd person camera, no fixed camera/multi focus, wide open levels, and exploration, would have me (for the 10 millionth time) swallow my whining and buy another Ninty machine for that one game.

He only says another "3D-action title." This does not necessarily mean that the next 3D Mario game is going to be another Galaxy sequel.

Pretty close to perfection if I've seen it. It will be hard to top.

No. Don't try to follow up Galaxy 2. Only disaster could come from that.

If we have to regress, do it with the SM64 style of open world exploration. That hasn't been properly explored.

I'm with you here, but I was always of the opinion that Super Mario Galaxy 1 getting a "harder" sequel, wouldn't be all that much, and then SMG2 straight up fucking delivered in an absurd manner.

There are mechanical things they can bring back from 64 in terms of all the tricks he has, and find a way to do their varied novelty levels with more straight up proper skill based platforming levels. Find that perfect marriage, no fludd, I like having Yoshi for levels, he's great :]

The worry here is that they won't do that, because they just can't accept that 3d mario

A: makes more than enough money
B: will never draw 2d mario money, and that's perfectly fine

So they'll keep trying to find this middle ground between 2d and 3d mario, and we'll get games like Mario 3D World, good game....but fucking unimpressive in the gameplay department.
