Does Sony lack quality control?

I was using the search function but couldn't find anything about it. So I thought I open up a thread about it. Many of us probably remember "The tester", a (obviously faked) show were Sony was looking for a new tester. I guess that didn't help their quality control.

Sony has approved many games I can't understand how Sony could approve them at all.

Example 1: Basement Crawl

A game so bad, even the devs had to agree it's horrible.

Example 2: No Mans Sky

Not only didn't the game deliver on the promises (they made on Sonys E3 stage), but the game crashed all the time. How couldn't they notice? It crashed so many times when switching the solar system.

Example 3: Afro Samurai 2

A game so bad, it had to be removed from the store.

Example 4: Life of the black Tiger

This Android port looks so bad, I thought Sony was trolling, when they released a trailer on their channel:

Example 5: Here they lie

A VR game so bad, many people (like Jim Sterling) get sick playing it.

Example 6: Arcade Land

A game so bad, it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to beat. In a discussion with the dev, they actually asked me if I want to become their tester because I found so many game breaking bugs.

Those are just 6 examples, there are of course many more like Weeping Doll, Putty Quad or Godzilla.

What do you think? Did the quality control of Sony get worse? Is Sony going the road of Steam, allowing pretty much everything onto the system?

I look at it like Sony giving those guys a chance.

Doesnt hurt Sony (or MS) at all unless they develop the game.

I dont get why people complain about crappy games being on the store. Dont buy them!

Its like when people complain about steam. Id much rather know those games exist and get to try them than to have smaller devs not bother because they cant compete with the major companies.

@ArchoNils2: Dont forget The Tomorrow Children, and game Sony developed. Then they had that Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume One that was so bad Steam had to remove and ban the game. Also that Godzilla PS4 game people and critics claimed was cash grab garbage.

Well, it's not just Sony. Remember how Nintendo let The Letter and Meme Run on to the eShop?

The flipside of the indie game revolution is that things like this will simply continue to happen. There is no getting around that.

Life of Black Tiger is sony's BotW so i'm not sure what are you on.

O god lord, lets not even look at the trash Sony let on digital store. Its bad enough with the physical stuff.

All the games in the OP except for No Man's Sky are digital only, so I'm not sure what you are getting at?

I almost forgot no other gaming company ok's bad games, how did this fact never hit me before this thread?!?

What are the bad games on the Vita? Do you actually own a Vita to be able to call its lineup bad or otherwise?

It's a numbers game for them. The more games, the more they can say developers choose for their console.

Sony gives more freedom to developers. Sometimes that ends up in bad deals but more often than not it creates incredible experiences and promotes variety. Beats the hell out of cancelling games and depending on mostly 3 milked franchises that's for sure *cough*MS*cough*

Meanwhile, the Vita with almost a 100 more games listed on Metacritic than Wii U has less than a third bad games on Metacritic than Wii U does.

So what's the point you were getting at again?

Actually, they don't yet. Wii U is still in the lead. That said, Wii U is going to die in a little over a month, and the PS4 is finally coming into its own, so that won't stay true for too long now. But hey, maybe Switch can give the PS4 a little competition.

Hopefully yeah, if Nintendo knows anything is about making quality exclusives.

No doubt about there being some fantastic games on the system. I'm not saying the average game got worse. It just seems to me that there is more crap on it than before. Sure there were bad games on the Ps1-3, every ssystem has bad games. But it seems to me that there are more stories of games being pulled down from the store, more games being impossible to beat due to a bug and more games crashing all the time than ever before.

On Steam it's even worse, there you get flooded with asset flips and junk. But on the PSN Store I was expecting Sonys quality control to block titles like the life of black tiger or unbeatable games like Arcade Land.

Sure you can argue that games like Sonic Boom were bad on the WiiU, but that's still above literally impossible to beat games, games that crash all the time or games so bad, even the dev had to make an excuse and either take the game down or release a whole new game.

I just don't want the PSN store to end where Steam is right now, where you have to search the good titles in a pile of crap ones.

They're not known as, Phony, the one and only for nuttin ya know. :P

MS actually started the console-indie thing with XNA last gen..............and had a ton of crappy games on it.

Buy a 360 and check it out, there was actually some good games that came from it.

Well to be honest, if you dont like the crap noone forces you to buy it... Sony should maybe consider to do a refund policy like steam where you can refund any game, no matter the reason, if you played it less than 2 hours. And yeah I am a huuuuuuuuuge fan of Steam, but damm they let a lot of horrible games pass through their quality control, but then Again I am sure if they had to examine every game closely, a lot of gems would also end up being barred from steam:)

True, but either side would do something like that. I'm not going to claim that I know the quality control of 3rd party indie games for Sony, or Microsoft.

@ArchoNils2: Have you seen the user reviews of the Life of... games? They're mostly good reviews and people enjoy the games. I haven't played any of those games but maybe you just don't understand where the quality of the game lies.

Well, I wasted time for you- I've linked you to all the relevant pages, the ones that prove you wrong. Do you accept you were wrong, explicitly by way of saying that outright or implicitly by avoiding the point? Or will you actually contest the point here? I mean, I don't see how you would, the numbers are not on your side here.

I see this across all platforms. It's not just apparent on PS4 or Sony platforms. The Letter comes to mind on Wii U and Steam? Steam is in a crazy state.

I find PS4 and Vitas content to be of way worst displeasure. They develop some pretty crappy games.

I couldn't agree more, with them being the worst of the big 3 console makers.

And yet so does Nintendo- in absolute numbers and proportions, they are equal to, or greater than, Vita and PS4.

Well it's easy to just select the few lowest rated MC games. However, some games I mentioned, like Acrade land, don't even have a MC. Others like the life of black tiger are obviously filled with troll ratings and have no critical reviews.

I do own some games you mentioned and yes, they are bad games. But none of them is impossible to beat, crashes a lot the time or looks like a cheap Android port.

As far as I can see, Sony let's much more crap on their store than Nintendo or Microsoft. Cheap Android ports, impossible to win games and games with tons of issues.

@ArchoNils2: I dunno. Many indie aren't as well made as big studio games but it can be fun anyway. Like I did enjoy No Man's Sky for what it is but I didn't follow the hype for it. I still think Sony as the most diversity of all the big three consol.

I see more disappointing games from Nintendo than Sony. I mean Sonic Boom ... or StarFox ... Devil's Third ( that one was actually very funny when the Gamegrumps played it ) or let's not forget all the shit shovelware on the Wii.

PS mobile on vita was horrible. Like really bad. Luckily Sony shut it down. I wouldn't say it has gotten out of control like that on ps4.

Hate to burst your bubble but bad games have been available on every system since the dawn of multi-game systems. It's how it has been and always will be.

Well it isn't like Microsoft has the best quality control either. They just cancel the whole damned game. Talk about swinging the pendulum the completely opposite direction.

All systems get awful games; but in my opinion STEAM is the one with the worst quality control.
