Out of all the racing games I've played this gen, DriveClub seems to have the best handling. You feel the right amount of weight when you turn, and when you do drifts, it feels like you actually accomplished something. In other games, like Forza Horizon 2, or Need for Speed Rivals, it feels to easy to turn. I like the resistance that DriveClub gives. You get what I mean, SW? What do you think?

Op has never actually played a good simulation racing game clearly. I played drive club and it felt super arcadey compared to even forza 4.

That's not even a question. It's mostly an arcade racer so the cars firmly grip the track. You're comparing apples to oranges across a broad genre here.

Last gen cows tried to damage control GT's jankiness and overall inferiority to Forza by talking about how good the driving model was. Now it seems like they're trying to do the same thing with Driveclub but it's not going to work this time since a number of people think the driving model is shit (Giant Bomb for instance) whereas everybody acknowledged that GT had an excellent driving model wrapped in a highly questionable game.

No. The overbearing traction control that you can't disable is maddening.

From Giant Bomb (Jeff):

But it's worth pointing out that Driveclub isn't an especially realistic simulation of driving, and apparently that's by design. The cars have an overly grippy feel on the track, letting you get away with some occasional shenanigans by braking at the last possible moment instead of gently braking or coasting into the curves. The developers claim this is an attempt to make the game easier and fun for everyone. But this doesn't make the game feel more fun or thrilling. It just makes what otherwise feels like an attempt at simulating real cars instead feel like it misses the mark by a mile. If this were on by default as an assist for new drivers that could be disabled, potentially along with a series of additional options to let people tailor the driving a bit, maybe this would make sense. Instead it makes the game feel inauthentic to real-life racing while also not going far enough in the "fun" direction to make it an exciting, arcade-style racer.

So I've been thinking.... why cant Arcade Racers enter this discussion.... after all he didn't specifically say anything about Realism.....

What Racing Games allows for absolute Precision Handling ?

For all we know it could be F1 Race Stars

He did imply that Driveclub has better handling because it's less arcadey, which is why people have been pointing out DC's extreme grippiness.

On another note, GS said that the handling in DC was "weird." lol

Wow, so you really weren't joking the other day when you questioned my preference of Forza >>> Driveclub? I never responded as I figured you were just shit trolling.

Have you not even played the GT games?

I mean **** man, Driveclub doesn't even register on the list here, you need to play more racing games.

For all we know he might not even have any interest in the genre...... its just another must have Sony exclusive......

And given TCs history.... it seems likely.

Best handling in a racing game? Lets see here.

WAVE RACE 64

RUSH 2049.

Fzero x/GX

Mario Kart 8

...

Might be forgetting a few but all those are in another stratosphere in comparison to Forza Driveclub and granturismo.

All you're really saying here is that you prefer arcade to sim (or the worst of both worlds in Driveclub's case).

It has very arcade like handling, front wheel drive cars for example seem to have zero understeer no matter the entry speed! Very unrealistic, also the tyres screech all the time like every other corner. way to much with the slightest turn of the wheel.

I got to say I do enjoy playing it for the punishing difficulty of some of the strict rules, no off the road, collision pens etc

No, in fact quite the opposite - the very worst one. It's even more lenient and forgiving than Need for Speed Rivals.

Maybe in Rushs case. The others not. It isn't about sim vs arcade. It is about what the game lets the player achieve with the controls. Wave Race and Mario Kart are very nuanced. Most sim games are slow in comparison. People laugh when I say that but what I mean when I say that is that every button the game uses is consistently getting used while the game is being played. The games hardly ever stop.

enough in the "fun" direction to make it an exciting, arcade-style racer.

Seems to be a lot of hate in this thread for no other reason it seems other than people think its the cool thing to do hating DC.

Personally i think the handling model in DC straddles the arcade/sim line quite well, cars feel heavy enough to simulate some sort of actual mass but its more forgiving than true sim games and nothin at all like RR or NFS thankfully.

Try it and im sure you'll find its more than playable just watch for the AI cars as they seem to be completely oblivious to your presence on track most of the time.

No. It does have nice handling for the type of game it is and it is nuanced enough to make you feel that there is always more laptime available to you which makes it quite addictive.
