Do you find "Live Service Games" becoming saturated in the gaming world?

After the announcement of hearing CrossFireX getting scraped, Live Service seems to be canned for the past days such as:

  • Battlefield Mobile
  • Crimesight
  • CrossFireX
  • Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: A Hero's Bonds
  • Echo VR
  • Knockout City
  • Rumbleverse

As you can see, they come and go and way too many across the gaming market. Just a Matter of time for MultiVerse to be dead as you hardly ever hear about it from gamers everywhere despite it's really good and a worthy contender towards Super Smash Bros.

I myself love SP games but in another way, online MP was and still is a fun side distraction which wasn't the main attraction but as a whole game itself. What's your take on Live Service SW?

Fucking hate it. They design the game around selling as much bullshit to you as possible. All I want is good games with the support of updates. Gladly pay a price to get a game plus future updates. Playing F2P games that force you to play a certain amount a certain time to get updates, while asking for money at every angle can **** off. It is only a scheme to earn 10x more money on their games, and makes the games way shittier in the process.

Guess there's some good examples of live service, but far and few between, so I'd rather have it wiped from earth.

It certainly seems that way. I’ve always figured that it’d be a tough area in gaming to succeed at given that these types of games want gamers to stick around for a long time and stay focused on that game and it’s economy. I never played any of those games myself. I like to just buy a game and/or dlc for it but I’m not into buying things such as battle passes and micro transactions. I have played some live service games before but I just have my fun with them and move on. Got too many other games I want to play as well.

Just like souls clones and open world games, yes

How many live services at a time can one possibly play? I'd say at most one, if you're really down to dedicating to a game.

The idea that someone can play more than a few different live service games at a time is certainly a bit silly given the finite amount of time available.

The thing is: the gaming space is huge now. You could easily play games for the rest of your life and never dip into the live service games. So, while it is dumb to see these companies keep chasing the live service cash cow, the industry will correct itself over time.

I live service has it's place, unfortunately the industry can't help but chase trends until they run them into the ground. Publishers gotta pace themselves or everything will go the way of Toys to Life and Guitar Hero.

Here's to hoping this reckoning leads to some reworked concepts. Knockout City would make an excellent local multiplayer extreme sports arena brawler.

Since I don't play Live Service games, it is hard to say if it is crowded.

All totally off my radar. If I were president I'd not bother with the development time and push those devs into something else creative.

Knockout City and, Rumbleverse were both really unique and fun. It's a shame they are getting shutdown.

Either way, no, the market isn't saturated and, live service games aren't going away. There's still tons more potential.

I feel halo INf is going to follow the same fate as Crossfire x . I would be so heart broken if Redfall follows the same fate 💔

Live service games are crap. Microtransactions and online only games are awful.

Live service games rely on the predatory practices introduced by mobile games to succeed. The industry has been poisoned by this filth and a cleansing is needed.

If Halo Infinite wasn't made by a multi trillion dollars company, it would be shutting down by the end of 2023.

I haven't had a problem with it yet, but I know publishers are cocks and wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them.

Can't wait to see what happens with Sony's live service games. Bungie should be pretty busy giving the rest of the Sony studios lectures on MP 101.

No... if anything I feel it's the other way around. It's not oversaturated the live service market is mostly just shit games. That's why when something actually worth playing releases everyone freaks out. Problem is live service games need to be done a certain way and 99 percent of the time either the devs or the suits have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

Probably so.

But some games do it, are great, and I dont feel harassed to pay money.

Rocket League, OW2, Halo Infinite, Quake Champions, Dota 2

Those games I've gotten thousands of play out of. Only one I ever spent money on was Rocket League... Couldn't let that K.I.T.T knight rider car slip by.

I hate live service games. They focus way too much on micro-transactions and have boring storylines. Live service games have storylines that always focus on the world at large and never personal to your character.
