Yes! they are back, but in like gamecube back! 24%
No, it's another nintendo Wii 10%
No, it's another Wii you 10%
Other, explain. 21%

What do you guys think? They've been firing on all cylinders. Getting back 3rd party support, constantly pumping out games each month. New games caught me off guard like Mario + Rabbids.

They're off to a great start with the Switch, but it's too early to say.

Not really.

First I feel they need the Mario-Zelda-Metroid-Punch Out-Megaman(no chance now) set from first party then some of the strong franchises from the NES-SNES era to have significant releases that feel like a strong progression of the original and not just remakes/homages.

The two big games right now are also for Wii U.

If you always enjoyed Nintendo games, then they never went away.

They are on a good roll with the public, however.

The past few months have been wonderful for Nintendo consoles. Switch is impressing and even the dated and ready for the glue factory 3DS released a whopper yesterday.

Good start, but they have a lot of work to do still.

I suppose compared to the wii u launch they're "back", but compared to the nes or snes days they most certainly aren't.

No, it seems to be somewhere between the Wii and GC. A step in the right direction, but not exactly a comeback.

Well for me I always thought they made excellent games so in that aspect I don't think that they've ever been away. Now as for strong third party support and hardware sales I think it's still too early to tell, need at least a year or so.

It's hard for me to say... Breath of the Wild and Odyssey are very inspired titles and what I've been missing from Nintendo for a very long time. However, I'm not seeing that spark in other titles and there really isn't much else to begin with.

The Switch is not an exciting system at all, even worse now that you'll have to pay for online.

I feel like they never left, Nintendo puts out damn good 1st party games and gets the occasional good 3rd party exclusives every gen. At least they're showing signs of life with multiplats right now, but otherwise it's just been what I expect from a Nintendo console. Which is fine.

They'll never be "back" like the NES-SNES days, but that's just the modern industry. No way any single platform is going to get all the biggest and best 3rd party games as exclusives anymore.

I said this over and over before even Switch gets release.

The biggest bet Nintendo has to win this generation is not the sales war. Is the support war. We dont want another 2-3 strong years followed by ... life supporting.

I dont care if Switch sales 100M++ or as low as 20M. All i want is Nintendo for once to not let their system into soft or hard life support or even worse let it die way sooner than it should.

Now we had epic years before. With Gamecube , Wii , even with Wii U. A burst of great games for 1-2 years and then ... waiting months or even years before an AAA big 1st party title get a release. So as much as exciting and promising this first months for Switch looking , never forget what is happening for over 15 years now with nintendo consoles.

Lets hope Switch will make the difference after so long or not and end up once again being a secondary option for most or even worse enter in a life support after 2-3 years.

Time will tell , as of now is doing good and thats a fact. For how long though its something we need to wait and see before we start talking about past glory.

No, they suck at making consoles. At least they still know how to make great games and it's selling well.

I've loved every console that Nintendo has ever produced since every Nintendo console has delivered excellent exclusive games. Therefore, they never really went away for me, but I do think that the Switch is shaping up to become my favorite Nintendo console since the N64.

@ConanTheStoner: It's just unlikely that any one platform is going to have complete capital of every 3rd party game. It's just not going to happen. :/

Anyone that bought a Wiiu already knew this. The change in game direction occurred on that console. People missed out on a lot of great stuff.

Personally yes but if Nintendo and media , let alone all of you , keep going about Switch being a console or 2 in 1, thats how im taking it as, since thats what you think thats how ill be reffering to it as , thats how debates will go on. Whats the problem about this ? Everyone knows my opinion about what i think Switch is. Deep inside you all know. Accepting it is another story.

Switch feels like the same position the n64 was. Great for Nintendo exclusives, still getting tons of public attention, thankfully for the most part no focus on forced stupid motion controls, but probably still going to struggle with 3rd parties.

So Nintendo is looking way better than it has but I don't think we'll ever see them in such a dominating fashion over the industry like they had back in the snes days.

@nonaps: Gaming itself will never return to such days. I remember when i had a Sega Genesis, i would walk into the store and there would be like 3-4 NFL football games to choose from. Now i cant even get a fucking football game on my PC. Shit is all fucked up.

I think they are on the right track, but I am not ready to celebrate just yet. I've seen them make a lot of poor decisions in the past and I want to see how they handle their older games.

@AzatiS: Okay, but if you think it is a handheld, then why do you keep comparing it to the support Nintendo gave its previous consoles? Nintendo handhelds get incredible support, the Gameboy was supported for 13 years, the DS was supported for 9 years, the 3DS is in its seventh year and shows no signs of slowing down.

So either you think the Switch is a handheld (which is fine!), or you think it won't get sustained support. it has to be one or the other, which is it? Because a poorly supported Nintendo handheld is simply not a thing!

Because its taken as a console from company themselfs , promoting it as one , marketing it as one , they trying hard to make Switch sound something different than 3DS successor and all. So how i should take it as or rather talk about it as ? lol.

I said to you all , taking this as console will backfire in the future and i stand by this statement still. So lets see. There will be a day you all be hiding behind " but but its a handheld man " in few years. I can see the future once again.

It has definitely started off well. All of my friends that do own it, praise it. To say they are back to their glory days (NES, SNES, N64) is a bold comment. That is something that will take a few years to determine. Sadly, I still feel I got burned when buying the Wii U, and that plays a huge role in me still hesitating on the Switch. The Switch has a great set of exclusives already, and are getting some legit third party support. As I have said in many other topics, I will probably pull the trigger once the Pokémon game comes out.

I will say that there is enough quality content on the system already to justify not owning a Switch/PS4, Switch/X1, or any other combo that was such a normal thing during the Wii era. The Switch can stand on its own, which is something I believe the last two Nintendo consoles could not do. Obviously, it is still a bit early, and that could change if support drops off in a year.

@AzatiS: See, this is where I disagree, because unlike in previous generations, this is the one and only system Nintendo will have on the market, so they won't ever have to spread their games across multiple of them, leading to the loss of support in later years that typically happens with their consoles

They're not going to be in their former glory until they've got the best hardware and all the third party support like they had in the 16 bit days. They're only seemingly doing so well because the last system to measure their success to was the Wii U.

Mario isn't out or confirmed good, Metroid is years away, nothing on Punch Out and good first party Megaman will likely never be on Nintendo again so no, they are not.

There needs to be a decent chunk of strong third party as well, 3 games a year isn't going to cut it.

They are on their way back. Not quite here yet. I'd give the Switch one more year or two before declaring whether they are back or not.

Their glory days of NES and SNES were just too good and they don't have the third party support to compare to those days. They are definitely doing a lot better than they did with WiiU but they still have a lot of work to do.
