I actually got the game on the Xbox 360 like 2 months ago. It took me a while to get used to the controls but it was enjoyable. However all I did was use the weapon cheat and blow **** up. :P
I'll have to play it some more later.
Edit- So I can't really say if it deserve any of its praise. Gotta play more of the game. :P
I love GTA 4, but I think critics were a little too easy on it. I think it is worthy of a 9.0-9.5. A lot of fun, decent cast of characters, with crappy ones here and there. Stupid cell phone gimmick was lame as hell. I do like how the cars control and act now though.
It definitely deserved it. I feel too many people compare it to San Andreas, but in all honesty SA wasn't all that fun. The world was large and full of things to do, but none of those things were very fun, and it all felt incredibly artificial. GTA IV has fun gameplay and manages to be an open living world, when open world games like Saints Row and Fallout have to have less fun shooting mechanics or driving to accomodate the large world I'd say GTA IV having mechanics almost as good as the ones found in linear straight up driving or shooting games gives it a major edge.
Characters were bad, story was boring and bad, graphics were terrible. The GTA formula died out after Vice City and its not longer any good or interesting.

Still quite interesting to me. If there is one game that will force me to get a console, it will be GTA. I get so giddy when I hear GTA being talked about.

I see your opinion but I have to disagree... he was lame. In fact I don't think there's any GTAIV character that I can say "he's cool".
It was a great game. 9.0 imo. I didn't enjoy it as much as the past 3D GTA games, but looking back on it, I couldn't put it down until I beat it. I really can't say that about most games.

I think it's a fantastic game but didn't deserve the perfect score. The missions didn't have enough variety for me (had the same pattern as other open world games of getting boring through the middle) and the game just wasn't as fun as previous GTA's mainly because it tried to be realistic. It did however succeed in what it attempted to do and was a great game, it just didn't deserve a 10 for me, a 9.5 would have been more fitting.
No, the game had some of the worst gameplay I've seen from a highly rated title. Everything was so sluggish and sloppy. The only good gameplay was found while driving.
RDR had much better controls and gameplay, and all they did was tweak what was already there.
Yes I think it does. Probably put around 60 hours into the game across my playthroughs and playing multiplayer. It's so much fun getting your friend together, going to get helicopters and flying around. I probably spent 5 hours at least going to the top of the tallest building and jumping off :P I doubt I'll ever trade it in. It's just awesome.
Hell no. I wouldn't have given it a 7. The controls and mechanics are a horrible, clunky mess. The main story is a drab and boring affair. And the graphics were a blurry mess. The only thing that game got right was scale, but all that scale only added up to massive amounts of garbage.
No way, the missions were repetitive, the characters ( except from Niko) were annoying as heck, the graphics were Ok...i guess they were good for an open world on consoles, the gameplay was pretty basic and nothing special. I d give it a 7.5/10
