Absolutely awesome news ! Now that I see for certain it's coming and as a prequel, this game is now in my top 5 games I must have and it couldn't come soon enough. :D

Sounds almost too good to be true.

Discuss if you like.

The Story.

Those lads at PC Zone are at it again. They've dug up major info on the shooter-RPG sequel Deus Ex 3. Word has it that Eidos Montreal promised a "powerful, layered" plot for the third game, "which has been confirmed as a prequelset in 2027." The developers also have original writer Sheldon Pacotti by their side on this one, in addition to the presence of both Harvey Smith and Warren Spector.

You're cast as average joe Adam Jensen, who works as a private security officer at a technology lab specialising in biomechanical augmentations, a forerunner to the sort of nanotechnology shown in the original Deus Ex. One day the path of his life is unexpectedly altered as a team of black ops commandos break into his company's HQ, and using a security plan from Jensen's own hand, a mass slaughter ensues and the conspiracy begins.

"Deus Ex 3's vision of the future sees holographic screens flicker atop ferries moving back and forth in front of the Shanghai skyline, now split into two layers with the rich on the top and the poor in perpetual twilight below," says PCZ.

Another change is that stealth relies on a cover system (similar to Gears of War) as opposed to using shadows and "damage will be dealt with by a very Call of Duty-****auto-heal." PC Zone will, apparently, have a ten-page preview on the game in its issue, which hits news stands on Oct. 09.

The First one was better than the second one, but it's still a great series.

Best on PC, but you can also get part one on PS2, and part 2 on Xbox.

I am really worried about the mechanics.

They seem to be ripping away any of the stat based character enhancing / improvements of the first.....

Yikes.

The art style is amazing (love the renaissance style) and the story sounds promising.

Its just the other stuff that worries me...

Ugh, they already consolized one of the greatest and deepest RPGs of all time with Invisible War. Do they need to take it another stpe forward and just hit it with the action stamp? THIS ISN'T GEARS.

I sorta knew you wouldn't like the way this sounded :P but have hope as I don't think this will turn out as consolized as it sounds though it's a we shall see type of thing.

I get the feeling that they are looking towards mass effect way too much.

Just a hunch.

Yeah that upset me plenty about this. I already know that DX3 won't be the perfect FPS/RPG hybrid like the original.

Deus Ex 2 was really held back by the XBOX, that wont be a problem this time roundFirstDiscovery

DX2's problems came from the game treating it's audience like they were morons. I remember JC actually sounding like he understood his history and philosphy courses. Alex, on the other hand, responded to nearly everything with one sentence answer that sounded as if he read a Wikipedia article on the topic.

The two things that concern me are the cover system and the regen health. I'm willing to accept changes in a game, even it it's to one of my most beloved games of all time, but I'm not sure how those will work out-have to wait and see. As long as DX3 gives you the option to deal with any situtation or assignment with multiple pathsthen I'll be good. I played the first DX with out having to kill a single person(aside from in a few cases).

I just hope they do justice to the depth of the original and bring able a number of the core elements of the gameplay.

Deus Ex is one of my top games of all time. I love it and I love it a whole lot. That being said, I can't wait for more details on the game HOWEVER I will be holding my breath this time around so I don't get dissapointed. While DE2 was a great game it was not even half as memorable noir fun.

I'm not too sure if I like the whole regaining health and "cover" system. It will be interesting to see how it turns out though. I always want more DeusEx. But KEEP IT A PC game for christ sake, and just as lenghty and atmospheric.

Like I said to V.V, have hope as I just don't see this game being too dumbed down, though I know from reading that it certainly parts way with the original but change could be good or bad and it's a we shall see.

Certainly going to watch with a eagle eye and just hope it's a great, deep, compelling game.

I want to keep my self open minded. But the stealth in the original was, IMO, brilliant. And while it wasn't perfect, I doubt that limiting it to a cover system will be any better.

Although, I'd be willing to live with these if I have a fully fleshed out skill system, a large assorsement of augmentations (not biomods, please), LARGE levels with MULTIPLE paths (not just two, Gears is still linear), and a complex plot. The only thing DE2 offered me was a good plot.

I agree with all though biomods could be cool if for instance you can uniquely modify them somehow and create almost unique abilities. :)

Biomods are augmentations. Except biomods sounds like the name was changed so that grandma can figure out what they are.

I'm not calling the game a TOTAL failure. Merely the shooting and stealth portions of it.

Seriously, regenerating health is the WORST thing to happen to gaming since ET.

That's what I thought :? Whatever happened to the old fashioned, hide in the shadows? Why regenerate health, unless you have a biotic that does that for you, and only if it's maxed out to it's highest level of function.

I agree. Hopefully though the developers are atleast listening to the fans of the original series. I can understand trying to appeal to a new group of people when making a game but I should hope they atleast stay true to the foundations of the game. I just don't want the game to become what Bioshock did, become a FPS with some quasi-RPG elements tacked on. Bioshock is a decent game but it could have been so much more.

Yeah exactly, the story in Bioshock was a joke, and the ending was puke worthy, after playing SS1, i knew just who was going to betray you in SS2, didnt stop me from finding the characters still totally awesome, in Bioshock, they just took themselves too seriousl. You can pretty much boil it down to a corridor shooter with a few super powers, only the combat is as boring as watching paint dry.

Oh and even though i didnt respond to everything in your post, i agree 100%. JC was a much better character.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Most of those of us who have actually played it hold the original in very, very, very high esteem.

And with good reason. In addition to being one of the deepest games that wasn't a pure RPG I've ever played, the developers crafted a world that felt alive, a perfect synergy between gunplay, stealth, and RPG mechanics, and a story that rivals, IMO, those of many works of cIassical literature. It's just that good.

Even though Deus Ex 1 is my favorite game of all time, this definitely is not looking good.

I will probably hold off on buying it until there are oodles of mods that turn it into a game worthy of the name "Deus Ex" (you know it'll happen eventually)

Everytime i hear Deus Ex talk, its like its gods gift to gamers. Its bigger then jesus and hideo kojima put together!

its a AA franchise, i see nothing special about it.

Have you played this game or are you spewing crap from your mouth based on the numerical value that GS gave the game?

feel insecure? im sorry to hear that. You should enjoy your game despite what metacritic thinks of them. Its a great franchise, not an amazing one.

Do you honestly believe metacritic? According to Metacritic, Oblivion is one of the greatest games of all time :|

Even though Deus Ex 1 is my favorite game of all time, this definitely is not looking good.

I will probably hold off on buying it until there are oodles of mods that turn it into a game worthy of the name "Deus Ex" (you know it'll happen eventually)

Another shifter mod maybe?

Deus Ex vanilla = greatest game I've ever played

Deus Ex + Shifter = gaming perfection :)

Uh yeah, I enjoy the game. Alot. i've played through it many a times. Reviews have no effect on how much or how little I enjoy a game. Nice attempt at an insult, champ.

However, I asked if you have played the game or if you based your comment off review scores.

"Deus Ex 3's vision of the future sees holographic screens flicker atop ferries moving back and forth in front of the Shanghai skyline, now split into two layers with the rich on the top and the poor in perpetual twilight below"

Im excited about this game, although Im very disappointed in Deus Ex's character cast. I would hate playing him..Adam Jensen, average joe security officer... omg how exciting. How the heck can you choose the most boring person to cast in one of the most interest shooters... bleh

The setting sounds pretty awesome though, shanghai with two distinct levels. Kinda sounds like assassin's creed + GTA IV.
