Demon's Souls is a pure masterpiece and deserves to be GOTY

As someone who despises RPG, repetition, and diffculty, I thought Demon's Souls would only hold my interest for a short while before I get annoyed with it. I was wrong because the game is a pure masterpiece that managed to trecend the nuisances I usually hate and got me hooked. The atmosphere that embodies the game world is incredible as well. No game ever made me engrossed in its world since diablo back in 1996. After just beating the game and saw its beautiful ending, this game definitely deserves to be GOTY instead of the other big budget and uninspired sequels. From Software really outdone themselves this time and has officially esclated themselves into The one and only AAAA developer.

I beat the game and new game plus, I "gave it a chance".

Its a very good game, but not near GOTY material imo.

Dragon Age and Forza3 are more GOTY worthy imo.

Its my favorite ps3 game of the year, but i think Uncharted will win that award here at gamespot.

Demons Souls was okay... just didn't really keep me interested I would rather play a lot of games before it, but by no means does that mean it's a bad game, it just doesn't interest me like I was expecting it to.

Yup, it goes toe to toe with UC2.

However I'm thinking it might not get GotY due the differences the console versions have it goes from 8.5-9.5, whereas UC2 is a solid 9.5.

Dragon Age is better overall. It doesn't matter anyways U2 will most probably be GOTY here.

Honestly, it deserves to be GOTY but Uncharted 2 just had to come out this year. Otherwise, this would be my GOTY. From Software has some balls to release a game like this and a game like this deserves way more sales that what it's getting. SilverChimera

No, they had balls to release Shadow Tower, it was easy to tell from the beginning that Demon's Souls would sell in the west.

well, a personal GOTY for me, but i'm guessing that honor goes to UC2 or MW2.

You would have been correct... if you were talking about either Dragon Age Origins or Batman AA being a masterpiece and unmatched GOTY contender :)

Eh, it's a good game, but not GOTY material IMO.

I think that award should go to Street Fighter IV, BlazBlue, Dragon Age, possibly Spirit Tracks, maybe even GTA Chinatown Wars (which was surprisingly good)

I thought Dragon Age was a better RPG and more worthy of RPG of the year. However, Demon's Souls is second easily.

I think it's one of the best RPG's I've played right behind The Witcher and Dragon Age this gen.

Persona 4 is the RPG of the year for me (yes it came out this year in aus). And Uncharted 2 for game of the year. Even though i personally like Persona 4 and U2 pretty much equally.

Demon Souls is a good game but I think Uncharted 2 should be GOTY with Dragon Age Origins being RPG of the year.

Dragon Age: Origins > Demon's Souls > Uncharted 2 > The Rest

The lack of a European release should preclude DS from game of the year imo.

I agree, very unique game and there is not much like it. I get sick of Bioware releasing the exact same game and just changing the setting and everyone praising them for it. Demon's Souls at least deserves RPG of the Year, I hope it sends Dragon Age crashing down.get-ka12

While I loved Dragon Age I agree. Dragon Age is basically a simpified Baldur's Gate and I don't think there is a single innovative thing in it except the moral decisions being difficult. Demon's Souls on the other hand, I hate the genre, I hate difficult trial and error games I love Demon's Souls. It's dark, immersive, it innovates and is not only the best game I played all year but one of the best games I have ever played. It deserves GotY as far as I'm concerned.

If it ever makes its way over to Europe then I'll buy it. I really don't care enough to import atm and with so many other RPGs coming out towards the beginning of next year I don't want to risk spending that kind of money on a game I'm not sure if I'll even like. Silent-Hal

Everything about Demon's Souls is highly exagerated. It's a game that presents some difficulty at first, and after a while you begin to realise that there is an easy way through every scenario. Some of the elements can make the game more difficult, for example NPCs being killed, and frankly that's unfair and never should have in the game in the first place, espically when NPCs start "randomly" dying, then the game autosaves. It's still an excellent game, and alot of fun to play, but I would have to agree that this game is no where near as hard as people say it is. Still harder than most turn based RPGs though.

I would put Dragon Age quite a bit higher than this game, but I would still put itabove The Witcher and most other RPGs I've played this gen, including Mass Effect mabye or not, close enough though.

Dragon Age: Origins is much better than Demon SouLs. Demon SouLs - Extremely difficult & presentation issues. Dragon Age Origins: Intricate, involving storytelling , Amazing dialogue and voice acting bring characters to life, Rich fantasy world filled with interesting lore, Enjoyable questing with plenty of twists and surprises , Lots of spells and abilities make combat fun. I'm gonna be importing it (finally) this Friday, so I'm hoping the risk pays off.
