In the early 90s a blockbuster release was developed by 3-30 people, cost less than 3 million and sold to 3-4 million consumers.

In the year 2007, a blockbuster release is developed 100-300 man groups, cost over 10 million and sold to.....3-4 million consumers...

Don't you see something wrong with this picture?

How are we supposed to keep the game industry alive if we narrow down our playing fields and restrict our options? You guys are straight up spoiled.  You want exclusive games on a platform with limited userbase yet expect high budget graphics and marketing? GTFO

The recent news of DMC4 petition is disgusting and pathetic. Capcom sacrificing 7500 sony fans, who will probably buy the game anyway (cuz PS3 library ain't so hot) for 10 million potential x360 buyers is the smartest move they've made all year.

Multiplatform has it's faults, but at least it ensures our future. More potential buyers just makes the possibility of a DMC5 happening.  A true DMC fan would appreciate this.

Did you know that Phantom Hourglass, which I consider a blockbuster seeing how it's Zelda, only has about six or seven people working on it right now? :P

But I bet it costs a lot, though. :\

I think it's coming from both sides. On one side developers lately tend to not really finish up their games IMO. Ubisoft & epic for example. Both online setups are very flawed, but you won't ever see them doing anything about it even though they definately have the resources. This is not the case with every developer though, and wanting exclusives is just stupid.

Eventually multiplatform games will have a HIGHER quality than exclusives. Think about it, would a publisher give a 15 million budget to a game releasing on one platform with a limited userbase or to one releasing on 3 platforms?

People want exclusives simply because they want to talk trash about other consoles so they can justify (even if only in their own minds) their decision to purchase a particular console. I can't think of a single reason why multi-platform games are a bad thing. Competition is a GOOD thing, especially for us as gamers. Without it developers would have more chances to throw crap at us for $50 a hit. All these PS3 owners who are complaining are just mad because for months they have been using DMC4 as ammo against 360 when they go to system wars to troll.

I agree the only games that should be exclusive are first party games.

I agree with the OP. People don't realize that it's the developers they really like, not the hardware manufacturers. I feel like people's loyalty to hardware is really misplaced loyalty to the great games that the develpers make. Wanting to play a game and hoping other people can't is simply spitefull.
