Calling it their idea is really stretching it.

I guess. But then who's idea is it? Microsoft? Blizzard? Nintendo? Jagex?

The only reason I call this their idea is because it is not obvious who they got it from.

Their past 'ideas', like the DualShock and the SIXAXIS, where obvious rip-offs of the N64 controller and the Wii controller.

But I don't see who they got this idea from.

It does indeed seem like a great feature.

It's not going to get me to buy a PS3 by itself.... only great games can do that, but when I do get a PS3 (which I will) this sounds like a feature I will definitely dig.

It has a lot of stuff.

Especially a 3D world, with HD textures and dozens of people at a time.

Can a 56k connection handle it?

This may be a BIG problem for SCE.

I mean, it takes over a minute to load up Nintendo's Wii Shop on a 56k connection.

Won't it take a longer time to load up Home?

As a broadband user I would vastly prefer that a console's online not be catered to those with 56K connection.

Nintendo can afford to make their's 56K friendly because they've made it clear they're not interested in actual online play, and 56K simply would not cut it for such stuff. When your online amounts to a ROM middleman you don't need to optimize it for high connection speeds.

The heart and soul of PSN and Live center around playing online with other users. The vast majority of them have broadband (by "vast majority" I mean "every single one,") and the layouts should be designed as such.

Yeah, home will be pretty good, but nintendo's Mii's will be so much more successful. Why? Because nintendo is using mii's to reach out to non-gamers while sony is just copying nintendo and hoping that the PS3 doesn't fail.
