After subsequent processing of the GPU from the Nintendo Switch, we have determined that the processor is the Nvidia Tegra T210. The T210 CPU features 4 Cortex A57 and 4 Cortex A53 processor cores and the GPU is a GM20B Maxell core.

Cool. So more powerful than a PS3/Xbox 360/Wii U, less powerful than an Xbox One.

Exactly what everyone expected. Now that that's out of the way, we'll go back to discussing its games.

Actually, there IS one customization, lower clock speeds for Nintendo. YAY. Even in docked mode, for both the CPU part and the GPU part.

Therefore, less power compared to the Tegra X1 in the Nvidia Shield TV and Google Pixel C tablet.

Well, there will be a lot of discussion of games that won't make it to the Switch because of that very chip.

@emgesp: Cool, and meanwhile we can also discuss what it WILL get.

If you're buying the Switch as a primary machine to play Mass Effect and Red Dead, then you're a fool. Even the most casual mainstream customer knows the difference between a Nintendo system and an Xbox/PlayStation. The switch is what it is, and it will get the games that it will get.

Switch is a secondary console priced like a primary console, that is the problem. You can get a PS4 Slim with a game bundled in for $260 right now on Amazon. Nintendo is going to be knee deep in shit after all the hardcore Nintendo fans get their Switches. A price drop is gonna have to happen sooner rather than later.

How does the Switch compare to the NVidia Shield K1 Tablet that comes with an 8 inch 1080P Screen and some nice speakers for $199??

As a home console it's definitely a POS. A semi decent handheld though. If they can improve that battery life for a future hardware revision it might become a very good handheld.

X1 with Switch clock speeds probably compare to a K1 at full clock rates.

@charizard1605: The gap reflects memory bandwidth difference e.g. X360's 22.4 GB/s GDDR3 + 30 GB/s 10 MB EDRAM** vs TX1's 25 GB/s

X360 has software tile render i.e. Maxwell GPU's tile cache renderer has no advantage against another tile renderer. Android has Gameworks. To fully beat Xbox 360, TX1 must use double rate FP16 feature (pack math).

**Xbox 360's GPU has 30 GB/s link to EDRAM. Total programmable GFLOPS on Xbox 360 is about 355 GFLOPS with 3X PPE's Altivec 128 adding about 115 GFLOPS.

Cortex A57 has 8 GFLOPS at 1 Ghz per core x 4 cores = 32 GFLOPS.

Yeah at 1GHZ, but Switch is capped at like 700Mhz when in docked mode.

I still can't understand why this glorified Nvidia Shield is $300.

Yep, Tegra X1 (at full clock speed, 1 GHz) is 512 Gflops, that's half a Teraflop. BTW only single precision fp32 matters, fp16 is pretty useless in games.

Switch's Tegra X1 (docked for TV mode at 768 Mhz) gets 393 Gflops.

Undocked as a portable, Switch gets 157 Gflops.

There is also reportedly, a higher performance portable mode where it gets 196 Gflops - Therefore higher than Wii U's raw performance: 176 Gflops.

I have no idea how could anyone be excited for brand new hardware that is this weak. Your answer may be "games", but remember, these same games could be running and looking sooo much better. You gonna tell me that having significantly more draw distance in BotW wouldn't be great? 1080p/60fps wouldn't be great?

The price for what's offered is ridiculous in a very bad way. Here, in Cananda, the Switch is $460CAD with taxes. Zelda is an additional $65. Over $500 to play a WiiU port that drops to below 20fps. If those specs were at least on par with the PS4, BotW would be easily running in 1080p/high AA/60fps. Instead, your upgrade over previous generation is barely an upgrade at all. This kind of "upgrades" would be very difficult for me to support.

Yeah, but we know Switch won't get nearly as much third party support as the competition, so it will be another Nintendo delivery system for Nintendo fans and not much else. It'll sell better than the Wii U, but you can forget 3DS level sales.

I'm guessing it's relative to past consoles in a way?

Wasn't the 3DS $299 when it came out and the VITA was $ 250?

Then again the VITA seem to have a chip 2-3 months advance than the regular market (but at much lower clockspeeds) and an uncommon/better OLED type (full RGB, not Pentile) at that time but the Switch a has ~1 year old part (Tegra X1).

Maybe with considering inflation, a 2017 "~VITA" (aka the current Switch) at $ 299 isn't hard to expect with more accessories included in the box.

X1 with Switch clock speeds probably compare to a K1 at full clock rates.

More or less, yeah.

Wait a sec, so Nintendo Puts an Inferior screen, inferior speakers, removes the operating system that plays all the media apps off of an NVidia Shield K1 Tablet, tacks on their joycon controllers and charges $100 MORE than what is essentially a Stripped down Shield Tablet. I remember stating in a previous Switch thread a couple of months ago that the Switch shouldn't cost more than $170 and I stand by that notion. Nintendo is definitely making a killing right now though.

Wut? I thought Switch games were 59.99? Talk about even more ripoff. People say that the cost of a game increases with more advanced engines used in our video games. What the f*ck is so advanced in a Switch game??? Don't think they've ever even used motion capture and their engines are from an ancient era.

The HD Rumble Joy-Cons are probably stupidly expensive to manufacture. They probably could have released the Switch at $200 if they didn't go all fancy with the controls.

I see BOTW priced at 79$ like every other game. In Canada games are now 79$ usually. Blame that on our weak dollar.

One issue I take exception with is how people seem to believe Switch titles are automatically looking like construction paper junk. This isn't the days of the Wii anymore.

That's probably true for non-AAA games priced at 49$. AAA games like Zelda will still have standard retail prices.
