It's no secret now that Kingdom Come Deliverance is a bit of a mess on all platforms. The frame rate drops and frame pracing are pretty awful. On my rig sporting a pair of GTX 1080 Ti, the game reaches 60fps/High/4K pretty consistently but there are some terrible stutters that make the frame rate go all over the place. I attribute that to incompetence now. I pretty much eliminated every variable that could cause stutter.

RAM: 16GB, 3200MHz. Fast, plentiful ram. Nope.

SSD: Samsung Evo 960 m.2 drive. PCIe SSD so nope.

CPU: 8-core clocked at 4GHz. Fast 8-core 16 threads. Nope.

GPU: 2 GTX 1080 Ti. Nope.

Windows 10: It sucks but probably not.

In come FPS cap which in that case is godsend. I simply capped the frame rate to 45fps and although there are still some drops to say 39-43, it's much less jarring than dropping from 60 to 39.

This in my opinion is one other great advantage of PC. 60fps is still the gold standard but in cases it's elusive, there are still nice solutions out there. Compromises, sure but much better than being forced to wait for a patch or play a game that is absolutely dreadful in terms of rendered frames.

If I can't get a stable 60-50 I usually settle for the 40s as well not as smooth as 60 but still a lot better than 30fps

45FPS feels awful with kb/m. I'm so used to 60FPS that I even clearly notice when a game drops to 55 from 60. It's annoying because I used to be fine with 40FPS a few years ago. :/

With a game like this from a small studio, its all about managing settings until it is patched.

With your GPU, you should be able to run everything at ultra at 1440p with a few tweaks.

Shadows - Medium (biggest culprit, game seems to not cull shadows you cant see/at a distance, patch coming)

Post Process - High (second)

Shader - High/Very High

Physics - High (third, controls distance at which physics are calculated on cloth, arrows, characters, items, etc)

Everything else you can run at ultra

If you are trying to run at 4k, drop the "ultra" settings down to very high/high.

I switched to 4k/very high with those tweaks and get a stable 60 on a single 1080ti

@navyguy21: I still get very frequent frame rate drops regardless. My GPU usage isn’t even close to 100% when it happens either.

I usually don't bother playing a game until it is optimized for 60fps or higher or until I have the hardware powerful enough to do so. I can handle the occasional dip below 60fps with G-Sync, but if it is a frequent occurrence, I just wait until I can play it properly. Capping frame rate is useful, but it is still very much a compromise. It will be months before I even attempt to play KCD. Hopefully patches have addressed these issues by then. In the meantime, modders seem to be on the case....

You may have to turn off SLI.

That is a well known issue on ResetEra and Warhorse forums.

Either that or use compatibility bit 0x080040F5 in Nvidia Inspector

At least be a consistent laster race guy and stick with 60 or bust.

The real problem is the creation of an RPG on Cryengine 4. It wasn't designed for that and the developer never changed the code to properly handle it. That's why Cloud Imperium had to change so much code in the engine throughout the making of SC.

I wish every game has the ability built-in. Flight Simulator X has framerate adjustment integrated in its Options menu. Once the aircraft is at cruising altitude, I cap the framerates at 30.

I was reading the developer for Kingdom posted that peoples should be grateful for a huge 20gb patch day 1, than them cynically releasing dlc, like this was good will.

Good will would have probably been delaying the game until it wasn't a mess.

That is one of the nice things about PCs, those extra customization options. I don't want to downplay that. But I just wanted to say the framerate is smooth on the X at 30fps, for me the game runs fine overall, although it is not native 4K/60 fps, its good enough for me.

Also, not sure this game is what it is due to incompetence, I saw the DF analysis of the PC and console versions, and it seems the engine they are using is difficult to optimize.

Weird, mine is stable at 60+ fps

It was all over the place for me as well until i made those adjustments.

There is also some other tweaks you can make if you have the extra RAM to spare.

Like i said earlier, the game isnt culling properly and therefore swaps things in and out of memory often, rarely saving anything in memory for long, causing the hitches and stutters as it loads and swaps files from RAM.

The tweaks you can make allows the game to use more RAM and keep files in memory for longer, eliminating stutters in cities and towns.

I made these adjustments using the tweaks from the Nexus but same issue. I'm almost to 2hrs of playtime so I'll just refund it before it's too late. Game is a boring piece of crap anyway. Hopefully they fix it and people who enjoy it can actually play without all these issues.

How is capping a framerate good just because of a shit port? What about those who have high Hz monitors.

Those people will enjoy their 120/144 fps when looking at the sky and whatever under 60 when looking at something that actually let's them play the game. :-P

I thought these kind of massive and sudden fps jumps depending on what you are seeing were a thing of the past but this game is like no, not, nope, nah.

for the original poster, if u didn't try this already. Maybe run it with 1 gtx 1080ti instead. A game this badly optimized probably runs worse in SLI.

This is basically like a Bethesda game.

Gsync 1440 1080ti it runs great enough...I think 80's, with large variation. I haven't even tried it in 4k yet due to what I've read, so I have stuck on the monitor for now.

Scene complexity always determines the frame rate. Games with varying scenes will have fluctuations. A well optimized game makes sure that the most demanding scenes do not dip below the performance target. This will result in processing headroom and extra fps for simpler scenes.

Will just wait until a few patches come out myself. Sounds like they have a lot to work on regarding what assets are drawn and when. I’d bet money off screen stuff is still being rendered in a lot of places.

KCD has been a lot more successful than I expected. Outside of the bugs and optimization, the game is being praised even by mainstream outlets for its story, mechanics, and world. It was also approaching 1 million total sales last time I checked. I'm still waiting for an optimization patch before I buy.

They should never have pushed a full multi-plat game on the first run. They should have focused on making the game great on PC (original plan) and then when that was done, ported it to consoles. A small studio aiming too high and biting off more than they could chew.

Don't compare your 12fps Xbone X experience to gaming on PC lol. There's a lot of gap between gaming at locked 45fps and gaming at sub-20fps

45 fps looks awful on a monitor. You need excessive motion blur and frame smoothing to make that shit palatable. The best use of frame caps is to get rid of screen tearing on 60hz monitors (when your fps is too high for the refresh rate).

This is why 4K gaming is still premature. Getting 100+ fps on 144hz monitor (the 1080Ti averages 110 fps at 1080p in this game) is far more enjoyable than a slideshow at 4K.

Upgrading to 4K doesn't make sense to me until 100+ fps at 4K becomes easily achievable, which likely won't be until at least Volta in 2020, if not later.

This is the apologist thread for shitty framerates on PC after all the complaining about framerates on weaker hardware you have a game that runs like shit on much stronger hardware but its OK to dial down the settings to improve the performance. The only time that's not acceptable is for consoles right? LMAO.

As someone who uses FreeSync, frame caps are a must. Literally FreeSync won't work properly if you don't. I have a 75 Hz monitor so I end up keeping my cap at 72 FPS. That tends to work well until games dip below 30 FPS (due to optimization or in a lot of cases some cut-scenes in games run at 30 for some unknown reason), and then I'm just out of luck.

I know you're trolling but the game runs like crap on any hardware configuration. Consoles have it pretty bad as they appear to be using medium-low settings. Despite that they still drop to the low 20's. The Xbox One X version has the highest resolution at 1440p. PS4 Pro only 1080p and the base consoles 900p.

The game is poorly done so not much we can do about it but attempt to smooth things which is feasible on PC but not on consoles. If there's anything worse than low frame rates it's jittery frame rates.
