co-op seems to have been taken to another level reading this preview of the game Evolve, from the makers of Left 4 Dead.
It sounds really, really fun but it seems that voice chat is almost a must for this game.
what do you think?

I'm very impressed by what they showed today tbh. When I read about it on Gameinformer I had the feeeling it would be kind of mediocre. But the gameplay looks awesome. And they haven't spared on particle effects which is a visual treat in those dark forests :).
Love the idea behind it I just hope there's enough game types to keep it interesting. I have faith in Turtle Rock to deliver though.
Side note: It'll be interesting to see if the internets lovely double standards come into play in regards to this being multiplayer only considering the amount of whining we've seen about Titanfall.
When I read about it i game informer I thought "meh". But now after reading and watching this preview I cant wait to see more as its peeked my interest.
possible,
I didn't care too much about but just watched gameplay video on ign, IT very much made me want it.
link to ign with tons of goodiies on it

@mrmusicman247: here is a better version. all gameplay footage
looks interesting but im not into co op games
Yeah, this thing looks nuts. Incredible graphics (go cryengine go!) and some interesting mechanics? The design is amazing from what I've seen too. The animations look incredible. Now this is what next gen games should do...change up the gameplay so we can have fun, rather than doing the same activities for years on end (bf/cod)
Is there going to be a Single Player story mode? i'm not into this type of game.
does not look like it
@mrmusicman247: Maybe add this video to your post? Really shows off the game very well.
Evolve looks damn fine
balance seems to be the key here, if they nail it then it can be a very memorable game
anyhow, wonder how they single one of the 5 players out to be the monster

probably similar to the way Hidden: Source does it with either weighting per damage or whoever gets the kill gets to evolve

I think you can call any game a sleeper hit because if it doesn't sell 10 million copies and have a huge following of rabid fans and major marketing it can be considered a sleeper hit if at least 5 people like it.
Saying its a sleeper hit is subjective since there is no definite and measureable exacting form of what is or isn't a sleeper hit.
And honestly it sounds boring. The levels are all essentially just a big multi staged boss fight. Doesn't sound too interesting to me really.
So it's coming to all the next gen consoles.
Where is the wii u version? I thought they'd be sharing the third party with the other two?
It has nice visuals but I don't like the concept much. Coordinating infected attacks was one of the best aspects of Versus mode in the L4D games, won't be any of that with just one monster to deal with.
It would probably be more fun with 4v2 so there would be some level of coordination on the side of the monsters. Having just a single focal point for the hunters will likely limit the options of the monster.
I don't know if I'd say it's a "sleeper" hit in any sense. The really just got revealed today (at least today was the first time we saw gameplay) and already every major game site has released tons of videos for it and have already started the hype it to fucking hell train; Sessler even said it's the game he's now looking forward to most in 2014 (and I doubt it will release this year anyways).
And I have to agree somewhat with with_teeth; the game does look promising, but at the same time, if people are just dicking around as the monster and not really playing the game as it should be played, it really could ruin the experience. Hopefully that won't be the case, but it's just odd to think that one person (the monster) could completely ruin a match for everyone.

that's the thing, the huge monster while a big focal point, isn't the only focal point. there are also other monsters in the forest as well that can attack you, you being the hunters.
while you're fighting off the small fry, the big guy can swoop in and cause havoc.

you could say this about almost any game with multiplayer. the devs have already stated some counter measures against stuff like that. for example, if the hunters are in trouble, they can't just go hiding for the rest of the round because the monster has an objective to destroy something and if he destroys it the round is over.

you ever play hidden: source? the 1 vs all concept is incredible if implemented well.
