Best hack'n'slash this gen?

I'm torn between Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising... I might go with the later as it made me feel like a complete badass when I parry'ed perfectly. I played Bayonetta on PS3 though so I didnt had the 60fps feeling Rising had :(

Honorable mentions: DmC, DMC4, NGS2 when it comes to combat; GoW3 and GoW:A when it comes to the overall package

I enjoyed DmC and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Waiting for MGS Rising to come to PC. I didn't try Bayonetta because at the time I heard there were issues with the PS3 version. Would be awesome if they did a PC version.

Not really my kind of a genre, but will go with GoW3. Didn't like Bayonetta, though I'm planning to give MG Rising a try when it comes to the PC.

I'd have to go with Devil May Cry 4. The combat system is insanely deep and complex and the DMC grading system is still the best aspect of the entire genre to me.

Anarchy Reigns with an honourable mention.

Not my favorite genre but I loved DMC Devil May Cry and Bayonetta for different reasons and cannot pick a winner. Surprising since I sepised all the other Devil May Cry games.
Honorable mention goes to Heavenly Sword. It is the game that sold me a PS3 along with a Wipeout HD video.

Exactly what i think. Bayonetta is amazing.

From all the topics I've seen it would appear that Bayonetta is it.

But for all the flaws they had, NG2 and NGS2 were the ones I had the most fun with.  The combat system in those games is phenomenal.

In terms of combat, DMC4. Though I'd still say Bayonetta. Rising is close but it got a few frustrating annoyance. Still an awesome game.

If by unmatched you mean completely outclassed then i'd agree.

Yeah the God of War series can be a fun little diversion with large scale set pieces, but when compared to other hack n slashes, it doesn't hold a candle. It's a very simplified version of the genre.

Bayonetta is such overrated trash, only gets marks for fluid smooth combat system, everything else is bad. Can see why anime lovers like the game.

GOW3 is the overall winner when you consider story, character, art, environment, music so on.

DMC, DMC4, Metal Gear Rising are next and also Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is hardcore and awesome but not as popular.
