Best FPS game of all time?

Half-Life 2 without a doubt, it's what every shooter should be.

Half Life 1's revolutionary impact is about 23.76% greater than Half Life 2's.

On the poll, Counter Strike is a close second. That game generated unprecedented growth to FPS's presence in e-sport, and the presence of e-sport in general. I spent my teenage years during CS's hay days, and its popularity can only be described as zealous. CS e-sport champion teams like SK and 3D were more well-known among gamers than real sports stars.

Well, there was games out before Half Life 1, but Half Life 2 changed everything. Half Life was just good, HL2 was revolutionary and changed gaming forever

Half-Life 2, Halo: Combat Evovled and BioShock were such good games!

HL1 and HL2 both changed the industry.

I mean, before HL1 weapons were all positioned in the middle instead of to the right. That's just a minor example. HL1 also had a fully functioning physics system, destructible objects and environment, full gore, a story-heavy single-player, absolutely industry-best graphics all back in 1998. The only game that was truly capable of matching the absurd quality of HL1 in the coming years was Halo, three whole years later.

No one lives forever

HL2 gave physics. Other FPS already did what HL1 did.

HL2 had better story telling also. Quake, Doom, Half Life were like all same games but Half Life 2 was first different FPS game that changed gaming. If HL2 never existed then PC gaming as we know today would not exist. Same thing about gameplay, story telling, graphics, physics.

Credit where credit is due, what Half-Life did for the FPS genre cannot be overstated.

TC, my hardcore friend why did u include casual consolized like COD4, bad company 2 Halo CE and bioshock among hardcore FPS games like Stalker, half life and system shock 2?

because else people would complain "where are my console games?" and mod would lock this. so i made fair deal

None of those.

I don't think every shooter should have such poor gunplay and be so inconsistently paced. But that's just me.

Yeah that'd be my order of favs.

Why Bad Company 2? Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 were significantly better games and offered a truer Battlefield experience. And those games featured 64 player multiplayer as opposed to 32, yet came out YEARS before Bad Company 2.

As for the topic at hand, it's too hard for me to chose between Halo and Half Life. I'm going to have to include Counter-Strike as part of Half Life since that's always been the main multiplayer feature of the Half Life games. So on PC, it's Half Life; Console it's Halo.

Whats the point of these dumb polls? this site is riddled with basement dwelling pc nerds who will open multiple accounts and vote for a PC game.

my favorite is the original halo by far. i've been gaming a long time and nothing has come so close to perfection for me. also have soft spots for quake 3 and cod4 on that list. two of the finest mp shooters out there even to this day.

and yuck at halflife 2, no shooter with garbage ai and bland shooting mechanics should be winning this thread.

Singleplayer? Tough for me to say. Multiplayer? Definitely Team Fortress 2.Game is so much fun.

Half Life 2 has amazing story while Halo don´t. Halo maps are empty and AI is always so dumb.

Half life 1. I don't know why Halo:Ce is on there when Goldeneye was far better and did multiplayer way before it on consoles. Seems like people forget what a huge impact Goldeneye had for consoles, first console multiplayer fps that rivaled pc fps's.
