Although not the most fun, or most interesting, I loved this ending because it was the coolest way to end the MGS saga. Seeing Snake vs Liquid. The epic music. It was so cool, and also bitter sweet.

How about you, SW? Best final boss fight in a game in your opinion?

Always considered Nihilanth the culmination of everything you learned in Half Life, and the best boss fight ever.

But didn't like fighting him that much in Black Mesa.

Gonarch on the other hand... Holy hell. That's one of the best boss fights I've had in years.

The music by Joel Nielsen is also really amazing and fits the mood.

Was about to say Lord of/and Cinders, but then remembered how easy he is to cheese once you figure him out, like minimal effort, kind of disappointing thinking about now, good theme I guess? Eee...

Go with Galbalan in Ys: The Oath in Felghana, the YS bosses can be very difficult but remain fair and typically easy enough to figure out with no cheesing.

@uninspiredcup: Cheese or not, Gwyn is pretty easy. The thing that was great about it was the music, atmosphere and the whole them around Gwyn declining to being the Lord of Cinder from being the God of Sunlight. Seeing this once powerful and august figure becoming pretty much a hollow was pretty amazing. His moveset is also kinda cool with a giant flaming sword but Gwyn was never really difficult. He's parry fodder and doesn't punish that hard.

Have to go with two from the Metal Gear series, the first one, the same TC chose for the feels and the second one from a gameplay perspective in Rising Revengeance the fight vs Armstrong.

Shao Kahn from MK2 he's not very hard if you learn his patterns but I find him entertaining I like how he taunts you.

not just typical boss fight. the chemistry between main character and villain, the art of story, the music. all make it easily greatest grand finale of all time.

Devil May Cry 5 had a really kickass final boss fight, especially with that music. Honourable mentions:

  • Bayonetta 1 and 2
  • Ninja Gaiden Black and 2
  • Final Fantasy 6, 7, and 8
  • Chrono Trigger and Cross
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance against Armstrong is the one that immediately comes to mind.

DMC3 is really good. God of War 1 and God of War 3 are also up there.

Too easy to pick a Japanese game. And I have to think of old games when it comes to Western ones. The snake in Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets (Gamecube).

It's been a long time, but I remember being very impressed with the Andross fight in Star Fox 64. Though the subsequent escape as the base explodes might be what really sells it. Closest any game ever made me feel to being Lando Calrisian.

The Soul of Cinder boss fight made me a bit emotional specially in its second phase. Maybe it was because of the music.

Original or Remake? I thought the Remake was pretty cool. Don't really remember the original that much.

@SolidGame_basic: the original of course. The FF7R fight was fun as well but personally its memorable for that ending not for the fight itself.

@HoolaHoopMan: Orphan of Kos and Gael is not Final boss. You can do both quest around halfway into bloodborne & DS3.

They're both end bosses for their respective DLCs. You're trying to argue semantics.

Since MGS2 and DMC3 were already mentioned... I'll go with Colossus #16, Malus in Shadow of the Colossus.

The lead up through the previous 15 battles, in addition to Agro's fall/implied death in the final "climb" to the final boss arena are emotionally taxing to begin with, then the payoff of finally beating him and the "release" it brings.
