Polygon had some interesting things to say.
In actuality, No Man’s Sky is first and foremost a survival game.
To be clear: The game, thus far, isn’t actually very difficult. I’ve only died once,
the draining life support, the hazard protection on planets with harsh environments, the wear on your mining tool and so on — add just enough tension to be, well, kind of annoying.
The problem, then, is that those parts are so constantly interrupted or put on hold for the sake of a survival loop that just isn’t very fun
I found myself asking as I played No Man’s Sky, and frankly they just don’t make for a terribly engaging experience so far.
I’m just working on coming to terms with a game that is almost entirely different from what I thought it would b
Get the feeling that the price will drop pretty fast.
And I just started playing Xenogears... so... It'll have to wait anyway.
I want to, very interested, but I got quite a backlist right now I'm working off.
But, with many things I want to play, it's always subject to a potential compulsive purchase (and that's why I have a backlist to begin with), so we'll see. At least for now, I'm waiting to see reviews.
I've watched a few videos of people playing it, and honestly, it looks at best a slow and leisurely make-your-own-adventure experience, and at worst a boring grind.
I said before that I'm going to wait for reviews, and I'm sticking to that decision.
I've already bought it and have been playing it non-stop for the past 5hrs. It's an incredible game, it's everything I expected it to be and I'm glad :D
Can not wait. Even though only been watching it for last 2 month but known about it since first announcement its the most excited game for me I have waited for along time. But that pricing for a indie game pushing it though that the max I will ever pay. £39,99 any higher I will wait for sale.
Already bought it, already played the Hell out of it, and already messed up renaming a planet. You can't go back and change names, FYI, at least not yet, so be careful.
The game is fun, everything I was expecting and more, but it took me a good two hours before I even got off my starting planet. There is no tutorial what so ever, so you learn as you go.
At the beginning, I had to repair my ship. Some of the resources I needed were quite a ways walk. You will mine resources and you will learn to love it or you will never ever get off your rock. Tonight, I visited 2 planets and a space station, learned a bunch of Geck words, passed and failed Alien monolith tests, killed a sentinel, traded, mined, traded, and mined some more. When I finally got out into space I actually had an adrenaline rush.
One of the planets is now simply called "F", I accidentally closed the text window before I could type a second letter and it uploaded the name.
I'm not renaming most things, but creatures I have named so far - Xeno Rock, Tyrannoram, Spider Mantis, Devil's Pickle, Centiweed, and Factus (The Cactus I found on planet F).
That's my contribution to this universe...
Went to Twitch last night, saw two guys playing, watched the first guy and he was pretty far into the game the other guy just seemed fairly new. It may be Twitch but the visuals seemed very underwhelming, the game seemed okay but looked to me like it could get boring pretty fast after you've visited a few planets and done your share of collecting materials. I dunno, hope those who buy it enjoy it.
Okay, I've played some (but not a whole lot) of this. It's okay so far, I'm a bit bummed that it's mostly forcing me to stick around to exploring and crafting shit instead of actually engaging in deep space exploration, which is the bit I am really looking forward to. Hopefully that changes soon.
The game doesn't sound like it's worth 60 to me.
Apart from the fact that it is very ambitious and made by a small number of people, I have yet to see if the content delivered is well worth the full asking price.
