i dunno why, but there is something missing this generation, there are some great games out there, but then i dunno some games are just missing something that was there every other gen.

I find this gen is getting more boring as the months pass. Like MGS4 and Halo 3 were fun i actually couldnt stand GTA4, but there is just that "fun" factor missing in a lot of games this gen.

anyone else feel this way?

Nope. I have been gaming a very long time and this generation has been, by far, my favorite.

I have more games that I own and want than I have time to play them all. I may have to wait a while to jump into next gen so I can play catch up.

Gaming has been going downhill since the snes. And the slope is steepening.

what your missing is some sort of innovation or new genre that was created...

every gen pushed the bar and gave us something different we never experienced before

this gen pretty much plays the same as the last one with better graphics....

snes and sega improved colors and sprites from the nes era

in the 32 and 64 bit era we experienced 3-d for the first time and we had real good multiplayer that went beyond just 1on1...mario64,mgs,ff7,goldeneye

in the dreamcast,ps2,gamecube,xbox era we experienced graphics that were on par with the arcade for the first time and we had sandbox games like shenmue and gta3 that had you experience a type of gaming never seen before with so much more freedom...

this gen we havnen't had that game or set of games that changed how we played except for maybe the wii...but it doesn't get any respect cuz its graphics are weak..gauranteed if wii was a powerhouse in graphics with the same control schemes it might have that effect

what we are getting is basically same experiences as last gen with much better graphics...(i haven't played mgs4 yet and my mgs bundle is coming tuesday...that may change my mind)

Nope. I mean, what more could I ask for this gen? There's more prince of persia, ONLINE gaming on consoles is more advanced, BANJO's BACK, and Halo 3 was and still is awesome!

No. THis is easily to me as good as the PS1/64 gen(my favorite gen)

TO me I believe this gen is far more diverse among the consoles and balanced

SUre the 360 and PS3 are alot alike.....

but Wii is finally just strictly Nintendo and 3rd party exclusives...that are different and interesting in design. Although I wish it had the horsepower.

THe 360 and PS3 both have multiplats, but what is really picking up is how Sony and Microsoft handle 1st/2nd party.

PC is as always PC....but i wish more FPS exclusives were being made this gen for the PC, and more RPG exclusives. As those are my 2 favorite genres for PC gaming.

Either way I have 40 games I own.

2 of them are XBLA(Penny Arcade Adventures, TMNT)
2 of them are XBOX original games(Halo and Ninja Gaiden BLack)

So even then I still have 36 games from this gen alone.

Company of Heroes is one of the best RTS games i have ever played.
Grand Theft Auto 4 is fantastic.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is fantastic.
Crysis on High or better settings is some of the best gameplay in terms of Shooters(though most people hate the 2nd half)
Super Mario Galaxy is easily the best platformer since Mario 64

Mass Effect, The Witcher, Metroid Prime 3, Gears of War, Halo 3, COD 4, etc the list goes on.

The games this gen have been fantastic.

Oh and Spore and S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky are going to be amazing this year...

I've found pretty much every huge, epic AAA, AAAA, AAAA/E release since this generation started are only engrossing for a couple of days at best, then I lose interest in them, if that's what you mean by boring.

In my house, only Halo3 and CoD4 have been getting more disc-tray time since their respective release(s)...

I have to agree. Console gaming took a turn for the worst this generation, to many broken promises and underdeveloped ideas. Along with the oversaturation of the market and just the plain cost of everything. That's why I'm going Wii/DS/PSP this generation.

i find this generation to be the most thrilling ever, next to the golden era of SNES

probably because this is the first i could afford 2 systems

There is alot of sequels. Less orignality with the gaming market. Publishers seem to be scared of trying something new. Assassins Creed was a great innovative game with a new storyline and experience, but yet people shot it down.

Nope, it all depends on the games you tend to enjoy really. There are some great games being released this gen, but many of them get washed away in the sea of generic that it takes a fairly discerning eye to find them. When you find them, or find the games that fit your personal tastes best it's just as rewarding as it's been any other gen really.

That's due to it's repetitive quest design and weak combat. If the gameplay was fun I'm sure the game would've been fairly tolerable. The publishers/developers that seem to be trying new things this generation are generally younger and more inexperienced (look at GSC Gameworld and CDProjekt, makers of STALKER and The Witcher respectively, both newer/brand new devs).

Because it was boring. Too much focus on graphics, not enough focus on fun. I never really cared for graphics that much, personally. People in SW seem to love it though, so I guess I'm the minority.

Well, I'm disappointed that new great series aren't beginning, or at least ones that I'm interested in. When the playstation was released there were many new great series because of excitment for 3D, and PS2 also gave birth to some of the series that I enjoy, however, this generation there seems to lack anything that seems to stand out as "new series material," to me. I'm not interested in games like Gears of War and shooters so ...

Yeah, I'm used to the GC and luckily I haven't been disappointed in any Wii game yet (the few that I've played/owned). However like you said it's still quite frustrating when waiting for them to announce (ex.) Fire Emblem Wii (or Golden Sun 3 :P).

I agree. There has only been one game that I've completely lost myself in (Oblivion). Other than that there has been a few great games, but no masterpieces. I can't wait for Fallout 3 and a handful of other titles coming late this year and early next year though so maybe things will get better soon.

i thought mgs4 was the big "fun" for me this gen. Or the geow gun u can get if u preorder (lol want cousin to buy that so badly so i can walk around on the streets with that thing...ohhh the fun and trouble i can get into). or is it the simple yet addiciting features of lbp...to me this generation plays like the others yet is more glorified.. i like this gen, although i think the last gen was more explosive

To disagree with alot of people on here, I've been gaming since the 80's and with this gen (with the exception of a couple games) I've been slowly losing interest. I don't own a 360 or PS3 and as of yet there's been nothing that's made me want to get either of them. The Wii's been decent up to this point but I have to say E3 wasn't all that encouraging. I'm kind of surprised more people don't feel this way; lowered expectations, maybe?

So yeah, I'm finding it boring.

Every game that I've put into my 360 has been fantastic.

Dead Rising, Mass Effect, Devil May Cry 4, Forza Motorsport 2, Ikaruga (XBLA), N+ (XBLA) and Lost Planet have been great experiences. Dead Rising, Mass Effect, Forza 2 and it's turning out to be possibly even Devil May Cry 4 have been more enjoyable than most things I playeed last gen.

Different =/= lowered, I'm a gamer of the eighties too. The crap games to great games ratio is better now than it was when we started gaming. Well, on the PS3 and 360 anyway. The Wii is approaching the eighties Atari crap games surplus.

I agree with the TC on this one. Everything seems kind of stuck on a treadmill so far. There have been just so many generic shooters. It's been so bad that I have had to start playing my PS2 again.

Luckily, things seem to be improving. I should be off of the PS2 again by next year.

There were a LOT of crap games back in the NES era, for sure. But I think the bars have leveled off to the point where, now, instead of a crap-to-great game ratio, it's more of a moderately bad-to-moderately good game ratio, especially for the 360/PS3 IMO. The Wii may have a ton of crap, but the great games on it are in fact GREAT, just a bit too few and far between, which doesn't look to changing any time soon.

Yeah, it does suck that everyone so graphics happy and your right you are in the minirity with me also. Look at the game in my sign. It still the best Batman game and that came out ages ago. Who cares the graphics don't compare with the 360 it still a good game.
