i couldn't believe it, went to gamestations website this morning to check out the preorders and the RRP on splinter cell was 49.99 (about $80) and the RRP on red dead redemption was 54.99, we usually pay about 39.99, that's a massive 25% increase in price, i may have to give up gaming now, thankyou craptivision, thanks bobby kotick you absolute jerk, anyway, rant over, which part of the world do you live in? and have the prices of your games taken a big hike? how many of you here are in the same boat as me?delta3074
red dead redemption's only £37.99 on gameplay.co.uk....
Actually i've noticed that about half the games are the same price (AC2, MW2 and more) and the other are $10 more. I'm assuming this has to do with when the stores buy their stock, at a time when the dollar is high or low.Canadians usually pay 5-10 dollars more compared to USD even though the currencies are near even.

it's only 39.99 at gamesation, but that's with a 10 quid discount, gamestations online discounts never translate to the stores themselves, they always sell for the RRP which is 49.99 on th standard, and 54.99 for the limited edition, even at gameplay the RRP is 49.99, i appreciate we are just leaving a reccession and things are tight for developers, but i live in a very poor area of the UK and our gamestation was already struggling, they had to lay off loads of staff, a lot of people in my area will find something else to do and give up on gaming completely, we had a disscussion about this and most agreed our price ceiling is 45 quid.the most expensive place to buy games is where i live: italy
twilight princess is STILL 60 euros.
when i go to the UK(once every 2-3 months) i always get a couple of new games for 20-30 quid. i recently got halo 3 odst for 20 pounds.
don't know about the rest of the world, but i remember new brand new australian GBA games costing 70 dollars. they went down in price quick though.
ha,ha, a quid is english slang for a pound, in this country we have more words that mean the same thing than any other country in the world, pound is either quid, buck, spondoolic or nicker, i.e ' i went down to game and got halo 3, it ony cost me 20 nicker'How much is a quid worth in relation to the pound?

I'd recommend doing the rounds of the online sites to compare prices. I just pre ordered the LTD edition of RDR for £42.85 (EDIT : FROM SHOPTO.NET), and the standard edition is £37. Zavvi often have ridiculous deals, but I've heard their delivery is questionable.
Go with Shopto. You often get pre orders the day before official release and their prices are usually pretty decent.
US will always have lower prices due to the amount of volume they work in. It's the same for the car industry. Regardless of currency americans usually get a better deal on vehicles compared to the rest of the world. It sucks but that's the way it is... can't see this lasting much longer though.
Here in Lithuania an Xbox 360 game costs 90-100 US Dollars. Most people don't earn anywhere near as much as people in the US or UK so this is the part of the world where piracy is very prevalent. The ones who buy originals mostly order them from amazon or some other website, because the prices here are just insane.
Im from australia and new ps3/360 games can cost between $100-$120au, i never buy games new, im always buying used games, but even still some of the more popular pre-owned ps3/360 games are still $90-$100au_Cubit_
And to rub salt into the wound, the difference between the Aussie dollar and the USD is less than seven cents at the moment, so there really is no justification for the exorbitant price. $120 AUD vs $60 USD for a game ... disgusting when the exchange rate should only be $60 USD = $64.30 AUD
At least with Steam and other direct download mechanisms the only difference for PC games usually is only the exchange rate. This is why for consoles, I generally only rent or buy second hand.
Sorry, I don't think you're right.
GAME usually have the same online prices as they do in-store and it's £39.99 for the XBOX 360 version and it's £24.99 for the PC version.
I'm not saying that the price you saw was wrong but I don't think you're right when you say all the games have gone up by £10.
You overseas people and your complaining over prices.
Your normal game price is 65 australian dollars
RDR game54.99 costs 90 australian dollars
We pay 109 australian dollars for our game prices.
You guy still have it cheaper.

£40 for first party
£50 for everything else
but shop arround online and you can always find games for much cheaper generally under £30 even on release day.
I was in game yesterday picking up Final Fantasy 13 (£39.99) and most of the games were the same price they had ever been £40-45, its just a select few games eg Assasins Creed, COD:MW who sell at that price because they think they can get away with it.
What I have noticed is older games are going down in price slower than they did in the past with games out for up to year previously still at RRP or only 3-5 quid less.
ive never seen a game for £50 in storeBeen like that since the start of this gen.

In Denmark we we pay the equivalent of 100 usd for console games and luckily that has not increased.
its annoying that we get shafted over, but i speak with my wallet and hunt where has the lowest price for example in my area tthe cheapest for BC2 was £36 in Tesco yet up in Game on the HS i was paying nearly £5 more.
I know its horridly expensive here and it gets you by the balls a lot but i just look for cheapest and then i speak with my wallet. But if game prices are increasing i wont be best pleased as 1.i barely have enough money to even buy a used game sometimes and 2.If i dont pay that kinda money for anything else i sure as hell wont pay that for games.(bass strings cost £17a pop off the net and i rarely pay above £30 for a gig why would i pay this much for a game i am only going to play a few hours a week)

Especially in stores as GameStop. I've even seen lame CE's cost $120 in gamestop whereas they cost $110 other places.
Which is why I buy my games in the UK =)In Denmark we we pay the equivalent of 100 usd for console games and luckily that has not increased.

$120AUD for a game like MW2, $110AUD for a game like BFBC2 and $100 for a game like Borderlands. Buying game in Australia is a rip, but thank god for eBay.
[QUOTE="Gxgear"]so you guys are alread paying 70-80 dollars for a game, that sucks, so us brits are clearly not the only ones paying over the odds for games.Portugal pays 59.99€-69.99€ fpr new games. So that $80-$93Canadians usually pay 5-10 dollars more compared to USD even though the currencies are near even.

I usually buy all my games online, RDR is £34 - £35 on amazon with free delivery. You usually get the better prices online, but stores do have the occasional bargin :)
GAME & GAMESTATION are expensive- they charge £34.99 for Pokemon HG/SS. Most online stores sell those games for £29.99.
Why are you using those websites? Shopto.net has Splinter Cell for 36.85, and you get a free T-shirt! Amazon has it for 37.00, heck if you want the limited edition you can get it at Amazon for 39.99! Anyway, I have my limited edition Red Dead Redemption preordered for 42.99, and my limited edition Alan Wake for 39.99. Pretty good prices if you ask me.
I managed to snap up BC2 for 22 quid. HotUKDeals.com is a good website to look at, because you'll see the odd game or preorder appear for very good prices.its annoying that we get shafted over, but i speak with my wallet and hunt where has the lowest price for example in my area tthe cheapest for BC2 was £36 in Tesco yet up in Game on the HS i was paying nearly £5 morerazgriz_101
In Czech Republic, i usually pay about 1300,- CZK for a brand new console game. That's ~50 Euro. Though that's mainly because i buy games on internet, in shops it costs about 60 Euros for a brand new game. Lowest priced console games start at 299,- CZK;that's ~12 Euro. You can buy some very good older games for that price (Mass Effect, The Orange Box, Eternal Sonata, Devil May Cry 4, Mirror's Edge...), so not just the crap.
EDIT: Uh, 12 month Xbox Live Gold costs here up to 70 Euro though, so it's better to buy it in an auction (similiar to eBay) for just~40 Euro. The cheapest 4200 MS Points i bought cost ~50 Euro.
One of their main problems in recent years is the super markets started to sell games and much cheaper than elsewhere. Big games are often loss leaders, a bespoke game shop can't compete with that.
I got Uncharted 2 for a silly price from Asda.
was in Southampton centre yesterday to pick up Just Cause 2, i saw no abnormal price increase at all in Gamestation (£39.99 for new releases)

Use the internet. No ones pay realistically pays that much for games when there are loads of other cheaper options. You can't complain when several people have given you links to the same game vastly cheaper just because you didn't shop around.
The RRP has always been £49.99 as I understand it. Retailers don't care. If your Gamestation station store does then that's probably why it's not doing too well.
I've actually given up on gaming for the time being. Due to the prices of games, gaming is simply a hobby that is too dear. I have tried to wait for new games to drop in price, but I've had no such luck. If there isn't an overhaul in the gaming industry, me and my of my friends may turn our backs on gaming. I'll give it a few more months but if it doesn't then I wouldn't hesitate for a second.
I am actually grateful for the recession as it has given me a harsh lesson as its helped me realize that perks such as gaming and DVDs are not worth the asking price. I will be spending my money on things such as footie matches, leisure centres and so on.
