A Max Payne remake or a sequel to Max Payne 3. Which would you prefer?

I absolutely loved Max Payne 1 & 2. I wasn't really gaming when MP3 came out but I got to it I think 3 years ago. A very good game as well. I think the story could have ended after MP2 but kudos to Rockstar I enjoyed MP3's story as well. Now I feel Max's story may have been exhausted, and while I would like a sequel to MP3, I really don't know where Max can go to from here.

A lot of classic games have gotten remakes like FF7, Re2 & Re3 and they have done the originals justice. So why not a classic like Max Payne? MP1 & MP2 are some of my favourite games of all time although I honestly haven't played many games. My question is would you welcome a remake? What would be your feelings toward the idea if Rockstar did confirm that they will make one? Or would you much rather play a sequel to Max Payne 3?

Max Payne has been through hell after 3, I'd take a remake of Max Payne 1/2 if possible.

Oh and another Max Payne movie would be nice😁😏

Not really all that invested in the Max Payne series myself but I thought MP3 was an ok game. I guess I’d lean more towards seeing a sequel the most.

I would love to see a remake of the first game but unfortunately all Rockstar cares about is milking GTA online.

I approve of this message

somehow can't see Rockstar making a MP4 sadly. not enough potential to add some kind of live-service multiplayer component they can turn into a cash cow like with GTA V and RDR2 Online

A reboot may be. Max is done after 3 and remakes are often times just graphical updates which actually hinders the actual gameplay. Max Payne still plays great to this day.

Also Max Payne 3 went through development hell, or so I've heard.

Leave it to Rockstar though, where a project can go through development hell and still turn out fantastic in the end.

It'll be really interesting to see what Rockstar makes next. I mean they don't even need to make a GTA 6 at the moment, they can just keep rereleasing GTA V.

Max Paynes story is done.

It will be like Death Wish where he has chicken with a new girlfriend every movie before something inevitably terrible happens to her, her daughter and their dog.

A remake isn't required either, the gameplay is solid and while visually archaic, still decent looking enough.

Using pulp comic book pages helps a lot in alleviating the ravages of age.

Just leave it be, make a spiritual successor or whatever allowing for more creative freedom.

Reboot of the series. I don't want to play as an alcoholic.

If they can stick to being a true remake, and not shoehorning a bunch of shit that ruins the game, then that's my choice.

Both :). But I would actually much prefer a Max Payne 4. A story where he has found a place to live, and trouble finds him. No need for a complicated story here. Maybe he even has some friends and you play as several characters.

I'd take either at this point. Love me some Max Payne. The unique, gritty narration, and noir is something that I do miss; it's been too long.

A sequel to 3 but made by Remedy. Just my personal preference but I prefer the Gothic styling of the first two games the best.

It doesn't have to involve memories of his wife again. It could be about police corruption in New York. Hell, its the perfect time for it.

I can imagine a Max Payne game in the Trump era where cops have different opinions about the state of the US and policing. Max is just stuck in the middle as usual.

A solid remake would be a better idea IMO.

Hmm, there's a third answer to your question. You have sequel, remake, what about reboot?

I would love a remake of the first two on the MP3 engine, that would be glorious. I wouldn't mind a sequel either.
