A Game you Hyped as The Second Coming That Turned out to be A Righteous Turd

For me, it was The Club.

I know, I'm not proud, but when I saw this game, I ran to my friends screaming that it would be the most sublime mixture of gameplay techniques to ever be devised. My pitch went:

"It's gonna have so many weapons and it's combining the mechanics of a shooter with the speed of a racer and the character diversity of a fighting game! It has like sixteen online modes. It's gonna be the greatest thing ever!"

Of course, it was not. I bought the game about three days after it came out, played through the game with every character on every difficulty, sorely disappointed in the lack of character interaction, like was promised. So few people owned the game that I was able to get the acheivement for being within the top one thousand on the leaderboards for a track. I never found an online match to play.

Till this day, my friends have a hard time believing me when I tell them about some new game. Of course, I mentioned this game at the same time as The Outside, which I also hyped as the Second Coming, so if this turns out to be as awesome as it had better be, then I'll be back to even :D

So how about you. What game did you definitely over-hype, either to yourself, to your friends, or to everyone who would listen?

Closest I can think of.

I thought it would be the absolute best handheld game Id play for quite a while but it turned out to be highly flawed and pretty generic.

That said, I still very much liked it.

I enjoyed The Club.

I thought Bionic commando was going to better than it turned out, I was really looking forward to demons souls due to all the praise it got here (from the gamespot staff to a large amount of people on the boards) I didn't enjoy it.

Age of conan it sucked as a mmorpg.

Mercernaries 2 :cry:. I loved the first one, but the sequel was such a rushed piece of garbage. People blame EA for it's badness, but in the end it's Pandemic's fault.

Yeah, make it even more shallow than it already was with infinite combos and making half of the characters clones, taking away pretty much everything that made the series playable.

I hyped it AAA. it was still enjoyable but it lacked some kind of replay value.

Scribblenauts. It turned out to be a pretty bad game.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. I told my friends all about the online and how you could double cross each other and we were all so hyped and then the game came out and it was a bust. I lost some credibility that im still trying to retain after that :?

back on topic: Ninety Nine Nights 2....yeah, I'm not proud... but I'm still going to get the game

*This is not a troll post and I am not saying the game is flat out bad.

Not that I would call this game a righteous turd, but it definitely had little staying power. I hyped this game with all of my friends as if there was no tomorrow and watched practically all the news/hype videos relating to the game. My problem with it was that the campaign and story were pretty forgettable, except for the ending after the credits, and the multiplayer relies too much on your team. Now I prefer team-based a lot more than a lone-wolf type mp like COD, but sadly, because of COD, that's how the majority play the game now. Also I vastly prefer the ranking system of the previous more. The game that I am referring to is Halo: Reach.

Probably FF14. I played 11 for 3 years, so I was super hyped for this game, but after a few days of playing, I'm done.

Gears 2, while not a turd, the first is still probably one of my top 3 games this gen because MP was so addictive. However the second was glitched and laggy and unplayable, SP was good though.

The only game I've really hyped strongly that I think will end up failing is MoH. I've been hyping it as the CoD killer since the beginning, but as we approach the release, I doubt it'll reach that level. =(hexashadow13

BioShock. "Rightous turd" would be a little strong, but a major disappointment nonetheless. Honourable mentions to Too Human and Dragon Age.

Driv3r. I was betting my friend that this would be better than GTA and we all know how that turned out.
I used to check out the website every wednesday(?) when they used to update it with more info, and play around with wrecking the cars.

Aion, way way worse then Age of Conan.

I knew final fantasy 14 would be utter **** though got the beta the same day as final fantasy 13 and damn they were both so damn bad.

Alien vs predator i thought it was going to be amazing and it floped and i'm a huge AVP fan specially PREDATOR.

Fallout 3 at first but now i'm in love with this game.

Tenchu shadow assassins thought it was going to be like the ones on ps1/2 and it sucked the stealth part and the story was like wtf.
