Or at least for most games...

People will go out almost every weekend to the movies and pay $9-$11 for 1.5 - 2 hours of entertainment. With games, you're spending $60 for 30+ hours of entertainment. So whats the problem? A FPS has online to increase longevity of the game. RPGs have tons of hours of content to sink your teeth into. Party games have hours of multiplayer fun, like GH or Rockband. So compared to movies and whatnot, games are actually more bang-for-your-buck than several other forms of entertainment in the first place.

Agree?

60 euros for games that last 12 hours is a bit much. my prsonal limit is 50 euros, i am not buying anything priced higher than 50 euros except dragon age. i ll wait for unchaerted to get a price drop. it is not about cheap it is about money. it is fine buying games cause you support vg industry but 60$? come on!

I don't equate movies to games. If I spend $10 for a 2 hour movie and its crap then I basically say, meh, sucked but didn't cost me tons of money so w/e. Spending $60 is a fairly large sum of money for a game that could be like 6 hours with some taked on MP. On top of that if I don't enjoy it then I just dropped $60 on something I absolutely hate. Let this happen a few time like 3 and you're out like $180 on game (without tax)you didn't like or enjoy. Comparively I'd have to hate 18 moviesto reach the same price. Obviously there are differences but from pure money perspectives games have a harder time proving their worth. Games need to sell themselves as $60 experiences if I'm expected to pay $60 for them.

Depends on the quality of the game and how much content is packed in. I find some games are worth every cent, while others are not worth a dime of my money. Of course what is quality and worth the money will always be subjective.

it depends on the title, but the fact remains the same, $60 (and sometime $70 for new releces in canada) is a tough pill to swallow when your not positive your going to get a quality piece of work

you're damn right it's too expensive for a game! maybe the devs should spend 3/4 of their money trying to pretty up the graphics and actually focus on gameplay. They could save a ton of money that way.

i dont usually mind if its a game i think i'll like that has good reviews. i might watch a little bit of footage (not much, don't wanna spoil the game) and if it looks appealing i'll usually go for it. that being said i do feel that $60 is kinda pushing it like someone else said, i can see $50 for brand new games (hey thats like an entire 8 hour shift if you make minimum wage in the states) but $60 is pushing it a bit (maybe for double disc games or games with extra stuff ie maps/guides/soundtracks etc) thats my 2 cents

that being said i do still pick up the used copy of a game over the new copy if i can (as long as all the original books are with it)

Your own comparison to the movie industry shows you that it is overpriced. Movie: About $10 for a 2 hour movie (more or less) Games: About $60 for a ??? hour game If you match the price of movies with the price of games (x6) then every game should be about 12 hours wrong. A LOT of games are less than 12 hours long.

Not really. The price actually hasn't gone up as much as everyone thinks if you count the fall of value of dollars in America. Now, in other places, it could be too much.

There are almost no games that have provided 30+ hours of entertainment for $60 :? Most of them have been $50 or under.

Games have been £40 in the UK (usually a bit cheaper if you shop around) for the past 3 generations and I don't have a problem with the price provided it's a good game.

They essentially are $50 dollars, a price rise is justified with inflation and rising development costs. The price of the dollar is not the same as it once was.

This is a big problem with American's thoughts on prices. The dollar is not worth as much as it used to be.

Games should be $40 or less. I got Left 4 dead for $24 and have played 285 hours on it (34 hours in the past 2 weeks) definetly got my moneys worth out of it.

$60 is too much money for a 360 and wii game because of low production valeus put into those games. You shoudln't support paying full price for games that don't psuh the industry forward. However PS3 games cotninually innovate and push the industry technology forward.

$70 is way too much for a game. Although I only buy games full price that I really know I'm going to love. Take GTA 4, a lot of people hated it, but I managed to put over 130 hours into it, and I'll be playing even more with the new content. That is worth $70 to me.

The problem is not with how many hours are spent and how it equates to other forms of entertainment. It's about the amount of a gamble you have with disposable income from entertainment. You can expect a lot of things from a movie and probably still be on target for what you're going to get from it. In the event you don't, you're not losing out on much. You could say the same about games but it's also a lot more money riding on something that could be potentially disappointing.

In other words...

The Notebook: $12.00 Matinee Snore

Haze: $60.00 Pocket Driller

When you put it in perspective for us Americans, that's a little over a half a $100. It's not fun to buy a brand new game at that price regardless of whether it pleases me or not. Then again, if you're gaming and buying new releases, you should be in the known that it's an expensive hobby.

The only game that I can honestly say was worth the $60 price tag was MGS4. Due to the fact of the size of the disc it was placed on (50GB Disc) and you also got a whole seperate online game too. Other then that no game should cost more then $50, but you can thank the idiots who buy Collectors edition's and so forth. They probably seen that people were willing to buy them and spend that much on a game so they adjusted the price, but now you got people buying these $70 editions...it's gonna happen again.

The biggest thing and funniest to me is that Sony puts their games on a more expensive format and MS puts theirs on a DVD, but MS has the nerve to charge the same price as the Sony conterpart. No one can justify this! Why isn't MS games a little cheaper seeing they are cheaper to make. Hmmmmm. Keep up the good old fashsion rape the consumer MS I love your practices!

IF it's an RPG, or you like the multiplayer, or it's a puzzle/rhythm game and you get really addicted to it or play it a lot with your friends. But most of the time, no.

I don't think I've bought a full-price retail console game since Halo 3.

I don't mind paying that much for a game, but I see no reason why some PS3 games are $59.99 while other games like demons souls are $69.99. There is no justification why some games cost 10 bux more than the established norm in pricing.

If you have a bit of wit about you you can buy games for much less. Online shopping is great!
