Everybody i know who has a 360 has had RROD,, its a general consensus on these forums that every 360 had RROD (more than once),,, so why are the numbers at 33%? was this a statistic from M$ themself? Its gotta be at least 65% (and 99.9% for people who are even casual gamers).

So, where does this statistics come from?

No, it was a store making a guess who said "it was around a third."

33% was randomly made up
16% was from a sample of 1000 360s
66% was from a sample of 4000 360s

Take your pick. I don't believe any of them, I just know it's high. But mine hasn't got the RRoD so i'm ok

That survery had a sample of 360 consoles as part of it's insurance policy. Not just the new ones

There is no accurate result. MS may know as it recieves most of the RRoD consoles and can compare to sales...

It doesn't even matter, because the sample is so small compared to the actualy number of 360s out there. Only Microsoft would know the real numbers, probably not even exact numbers, they probably know close to the real numbers

In my opinion, every box will rrod in the next 5 years. Mainly because of the dust that will get inside it and will overheat it, that my guess though, not fact. Now ms will make a 64nm cpu..., they should have made some 45nm cpu while they were at it, but it's good idea in theory, but the fact that they will not spend 2$ more on each box to add another fan will make that addition useless

That's insane. I have been good for the couple of months that i've owned it. But i'm worried for summer, because the room I game in gets extremely hot. (I think it's because its above the garage= cars produce heat= heat rises= hot room= RRoD= )

Over a 5 year period it's probably %75 for launch units then decreasing to around %10 for current models. Polls and statistics are all over the place so it's hard to know anything concrete.

Whatever the percentage is, it's still pretty damn high. I wish Microsoft would fix the source of the problem instead of just repairing broken 360s.

Poor post, TC. Don't be so blinded as to think that SW in any way equals reality. People say whatever they can to bash others and praise themselves.

Kind of like what you are attempting to do.

You shouldn't believe any of them because they are all BS. The 33% is the guesstimate based on what one single store was experiencing.

The 16% number comes from a company that sells warranties, polling only their own clients, and ONLY those clients who used their warranty. It did not include ALL 360 owners and did not include anyone who chose to directly use the MS warranty.

Not sure where the 66% number is from but it may be from the same warranty company above. I remember in their "report" that the number of ALL warranty issues was higher than the 16% they gave out.

Regardless...all BS and none of it reflects the actual problem or number of failures. Only MS knows that for certain.

There is no real hard data out there published on 360 rrod.

but even with a small sample u can make a fairly accurate portrial of the number of rrod, unlike what some people in this thread think (irrelevent how many 360's are out there).

Assuming 360 are distrubuted randomly to the stores (as in no bad batches exist other then from randomness)

Just using the people i know, all 10 of them (not counting refurbished) 5 have had RROD over the past few years, even with that small of a sample u can be 90% sure that the failure rate is above 5%. even with this small data u can prolly say something more conclusive then the failure rate is more then 5% (too lazy to do this).

Theres no doubt that your odds are lowered pretty drastically with the new falcon model. My friends falcon runs noticeably cooler than my launch 360 (which hasnt broken yet, I just take good care of it)

i think every x360 on the market will get the RROD sooner or later. 5 out of 5 people that i work with got the rrod once and 3 of the are on their 3rd and 1 of them on their 2nd. 4 of my Friends are on their 2nd and 2 of them did have any problems yet.

i really wish i made this up but face it x360 fanboys the x360 sucks

Why would you not count refurbished?

I agree that it is way higher than 5%. If it was withing a normal range (whatever that means) we wouldn't be talking about it. But using your own sample, that means %50 failure rate. Not that your friends are a large enough sample to be considered accurate. However, I think the only way to get an accurate TRUE failure rate is if we include all the refurbished or "fixed" units that end up breaking.

Using my own experiences, I have 3 friends with 360s. Only one has had it since launch. Of those 3 people, one has never had a problem, the second JUST got the RROD last week for the first time, and the third (who has had his since launch) is on his 7th or 8th. Three people, three different ages, all bought at different times and from different places. Three people...with about 10 360s between them.

The actual percentage is irrelevant. There is just no way to spin these stories as being a good sign or even NORMAL.

I always wondered that too lol. I dont hate the 360, I still plan on getting one, just later, but Ive always thought those numbers were from a specific span of time, because think about it....All 360s are guarranteed to RROD no matter what. Just because you were one of the lucky people who havent seen it yet, dont worry, you just lasted longer Its not a % of how many consoles actually RROD, it is actually a % of a certain # of consoles that RROD'ed within a certain time span. that number was taken, and publiczed, as damage control by MS, to save the system from completely flopping(im talking literal damage control, not the SW damage controll). Now im not saying that the 360 is doomed, but every 360 Will RROD eventually, all they can do is make this time span longer.

and I dont know about you, but I plan to own my 360 much longer than 3 years, so what 3 years from now when it breaks (Which it is guarranteed to do eventually no matter what) and the warranty runs out im screwed?

I wish they would get this together, I dont trust the jasper, i might just wait until they decide to scrap the design alltogether, and redesign it to be more efficient. I dont know why they havent done that yet, looks like all theyve done so far is shell out money to cover up all their mistakes instead of fixing it. like the sink is flooded, but rather than turning off the water, or for that matter even mopping the watter up, while the sink is still on, they just try to give everybody a pair of wetboots.

It has a "design flaw".. So the failure rate can be upward of 100%.... Just be lucky that people are only saying it is 33%.

If it was less than 10%, MS would have said it... So I am sure it is a lot more than that... which nobody would say the true.

The system is a flawed design. As such, they're all going to expire- the time just varies on all the systems. It's a good thing M$ is going to continue to replace them. Hopefully they fix the issue so I can buy one that'll still play my game library 10 years down the line.

having gone through 5 360's, and having to suffer through MS's horrible "customer service" I say people should make a very big deal about this. The failure rate, whatever it may be, is clearly too high. That much has been said by MS themselves. Its clearly higher than the industry standards, and they still repair old, failure prone components instead of replacing them with the more efficient ones they currently have at their disposal. I say people should make a very big deal about that. like I said, 5 consoles to get one thats been functional for more than a month. thats a big deal given that its not a small investment. (console accessories, games, live subscription)

This isnt something that people should accept and not talk about, its something users should be screaming at MS to fix.

I have played my 360 quite a lot since I first got it, christmas of 2006, and have yet to experience a single RROD.. ever, neither have any of my friends who own 360s, I dont think the RROD is really as common as its made out to be honestly

You're kidding right? I know (plus me) 4 people with 360's. Not a single prob from either of us. Like not even a scratch on a disk. Nothing. Zip. So no, I don't think people should listen and believe everything they read here on SW. Especially a place that is dominated by PS3 fanboys. And yes I know the RROD is a prob, mostly with launch 360's, but it so isn't as bad as people make it out to be here on SW. "ME ON 7TH RROD 360!!!111". Come on..

Me, personally, don't know anyone who has gotten RRoD. I've gotten it, but I just restarted and it was fine. Happened every week on Sunday for a month too. Then it stopped completely. Haven't had any problems since.

Poor post, TC. Don't be so blinded as to think that SW in any way equals reality. People say whatever they can to bash others and praise themselves.

Kind of like what you are attempting to do.

StringGuard

silly rabbit... this thread wasnt meant to be a dig at anybody but whoever puts out these false numbers. Of the ppl I know with a 360 (about 12 ppl), 8 of them have had RROD,, and of the other 4 only 1 of them even plays games. This wasnt meant to be a thread hyping the PS3 over 360 (I wouldve got a 360 over a ps3 had it not been a foregone conclusion i was buying a ticking timebomb)

Any lemming who denies that M$ has horribly poor hardware is just as bad any cow who claims PS3 currently has a great lineup of exclusives.

I just know that over half of my friends who have a 360 had a RROD, the worst one being a 3month old console getting it. Luckily, I haven't had RROD or my friend who's console I played before getting my own.

The 33% was started by an anonymous Gamestop/EBgames manager, not Microsoft. Also the only real statistical data (not anonymous employees or random polls) released to the public stated that the defect rate was 16%. Also every console has a design flaw including PS3, and Wii otherwise they would all have a 0% defective rate.

Whatever the percentage is, it's still pretty damn high. I wish Microsoft would fix the source of the problem instead of just repairing broken 360s.NWA_31
They are not just repairing them the are adding different fans, sometimes motherboards, and even sometimes you get a brand new 360, my nephew sent his in and got a brand new one. not much noise comes out of it, it's actually quieter then my PS3. and that's the truth.

[QUOTE="f50p90"]

33% was randomly made up
16% was from a sample of 1000 360s
66% was from a sample of 4000 360s

Take your pick. I don't believe any of them, I just know it's high. But mine hasn't got the RRoD so i'm ok

ParadiseAwaits

All I know is that I'm on my 8th Xbox 360 console. So those statistics are not far from the truth.

I find that VERY hard to believe. Or you just don't know how take care of your stuff.
