"I would be willing to “shut down” government if the Democrats do not give us the votes for Border Security, which includes the Wall! Must get rid of Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT! We need great people coming into our Country!"

https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/29/politics/donald-trump-shutdown-wall/index.html

I'm sure the other members of his party will love the possibility of a shutdown occurring during the midterm races.

So what is your excuse for the Democrats threatening the same thing? Or wait it´s the Democrats right so they are free and clear.

Perhaps next time be a bit less partisan Matt.

And both sides use/have used a shutdown as a bargaining tool.

So not sure why you are trying to portray one side as worse than the other. Or wait i am sure why,........ hate for Trump.

Sure, shut down the government several months before midterms trying to fund a wall that most don't want to build. We've seen this giant turd's tantrums before.

Of course the democrats have done it. We're talking about the current situation though.

There seems to be a threat of government shut down every other month. It's like a fart in the wind now.

A shut down would certainly dampen economic output if workers are sent home until funding is restored. Dangerous game to play considering the economy is the only thing Trump could possibly talk about in a slightly positive manner.

a threat is a threat and Trump has as much to say about it as you have.

Republicans will play this as the wise old dogs they are and the Democrats will stand on an edge trying to not seem like the bad guys.

It´s all the same song and dance that has been done multiple times before.

Threatening shut down is stupid, whoever does it. Do you accept in this specific situation, Trump is stupid?

Also, Threatening shutdown over an issue most Americans disagree with would be VERY unwise. Especially with midterms comming.

The wall is idiotic and should never happen.

It's already proven that it will disrupt wildlife and Americans who live/work near and on the border.

I honestly thought he kind of forgot about the wall. Havent heard it mentioned for a while.

My usual assumption though: since he is making a big whiny deal out of something stupid, it probably means he is trying to misdirect from something serious. Keep your eyes on the periphery, folks.

Personally, I say go for it. Treason Don should get his republican collegues to gum up the works so they can't get the other stuff they want accomplised done before the midterms. The big stupid wall is absolutely the hill Trump and idiots republicans should choose to die on.

@Jacanuk: The math here is different. Republicans control every branch of government, it behooves them to not shut it down. Also Democrats took a lot of heat for shutting down the government over DACA. This time the onus would strictly be on trump for shutting it down for not getting his wall AND massive cuts to legal immigration at the same time.

Well, at least he's taking responsibility for calling for a shutdown. Now we know who to blame if and when it happens.

A shutdown has nothing to do with his confirmation.

Also, Trump is just playing to his base nothing else, the Republicans will be the ones together with the Democrats who extend it to after the mid-terms.

I think everyone is too focused on the Russia story to care.

which ironically is perfect timing for them to separate more families just for fun because most of us are not looking right now

See, this is why people call CNN fake news. Their stories die within hours.

Trump himself said "there is no red line" when asked about the 25 billion dollar funding. That leads me to believe that there is a point where the wall gets no funding at all.

@vl4d_l3nin: If your complaint is with cnn, look at one of the literally dozens of other outlets who reported this, or Trump who originally wrote the statement.

The fact that he's as fickle as a feather in a stream doesn't make reporting on what he says fake news.

Separating children from families is the current law. If a person claim asylum as mot of the individuals do that enter illegally after twenty days their children must be released. The government must then take custody of them. Currently there are 12,000 children under government care who entered the country illegally without their parents.
