Modern Western pre-election messaging is very deliberately twee and provincial. It's like the guy with the bumpkin ringtone - you trust him because you feel superior - there's no way this dude, with his limited means and outmoded taste, could get anything past me.

It's fascinating that the Lincoln Project has made the conscious decision to go the other way.
