https://edition.cnn.com/2022/09/23/business/mcdonalds-byron-allen-lawsuit/index.html

It's basically a media Mogul suing McDonalds for not giving him enough advertisment revenue.

He claims the black community is not getting enough back from McDonald's.

Of course the member of the black community that should benefited by the fixing of this disparity is himself.

My read is that this kind of things are a result of a society that understand everything is terms of racial or gender conflict.

It allows to reinterpret unrelated situacions as racial conflict for benefit.

In other words, according to the plaintiff, Ronald McDonald can't choose where to advertise and how much is spent advertising on certain networks because that exemplifies racism?

@Solaryellow: yes, and according to it, the desition as to whether advertise or not is secretly being made based on the race of the owner.

It's frivolous. No one is forcing anyone to eat at McDonald's. No one can tell a company what advertisers it can use, nor how much it should spend with each advertiser.

It just doesn't make sense from any angle and will be thrown out.

Frivolous lawsuits can still cost a company millions of dollars, which is a leading reason why so many settle out of court which often ends up being cheaper than paying lawyers for a long, drawn out lawsuit. This makes corporations, and people with money prime targets for extortion, threatening frivolous lawsuits, to receive settlements. It's all too common.

Yes, Tesla has been under similar threat of lawsuits lately. It's a shame.

There's a way to stop that. Make the plaintiff pay for costs when it's found to be frivolous.

Tesla's lawsuits are very different from this. Those are alleging abhorrent work place harassment that went unchecked.

i think we'd all be happy if most companies spent less on advertising.

By my reading, you're trying to twist an unrelated court case into a political statement that benefits your own conservative views.

If only the plaintiffs in these cases could actually afford the legal costs these corporations have to put up to defend themselves from these suits. McDonald's legal expenses will likely be in the millions.

Yes - there's many instances in us courts where the party bringing dumb lawsuits ends up having to pay the other side's legal fees. Happens all of the time.

Duh. Then lawyers don't take frivolous cases. Nor would people file them if they knew they had to pay.

Such frivolity should be taken a step further than just having the plaintiff pay the opposing side's bills. I believe the lawyer who brought forth such b.s. should have his/her law license suspended as well. The much needed common sense reforms of society will never happen because the particular individuals are in bed with the politicians.
