that lil puzzle game is so horibble. sure its a good puzzle game but doesnt deserve game of the year. its takes home 3 awards tieing bioshock readi it on gamespot
I disagree. It's a simplitic idea. Well crafted. Beautiful looking, no matter how one cuts it. Sure it isn't the sort of game where you shoot to kill other digital creations. But, the whole concept of it. How it panned out. That alone warrants the awards it got, and so well deserves.
Personally, it was in my top 5 games of '07. Some people really don't like unique and interesting games that just happen to be pretty damn amazing. Oh well...:?
Considering the game can be beat in about 2 hours or less (especially if you've played it already, and the challenges don't add too much extra time), I don't think it should be eligible for GotY. That being said, it was probably my favorite part of the Orange Box (PC version, and that's saying a lot because I've played a ton of TF2). It's a very well designed game. It's fairly simplistic, but the atmosphere is awesome and no one can deny the charm of the computer voice. The last level all the way up to the last boss and ending made the game worth the purchase, and that's no small feat considering it only takes about 30 min. I haven't played Portal since around November last year and I still get the ending credits song stuck in my head when I think about it. ...(*dammit* :evil: )
quite simply a work of art. It was one of the/if not the most innovative games of 2007. Valve dared to be different and put out something that wasn't a shooter (although it was bundled in a shooter-game package) and they delivered, awesome gameplay, immersive environments, the mystery, and the hilarity of the computer made this game one of my fav's in a long time. COD 4, although great, can't touch portal.
Portal was great... I just wish it was longer. About 70% of the game feels like a tutorial, and I completed the game from the begining to the end in less than 1,5 hours (which means a lot considering I never was a rush gamer). Once you know how to solve the puzzles, the game becomes incredibly easy and short. The last chapter was by far the most enjoyable.
Those are the only demerits I can think of the game being GOTY. If the last part of the game was longer (kind of 2 hours, playing fast), the game would be a more serious contender.
sorry, im glad portal won. it was very creative in how it messed with reality. Bioshock was overrated IMO. its a great game dont get me wrong, but lack of multiplayer really miffed me as did a few minor things. Honestly I felt Mario Galaxy was the best game of last year. Such a head trip and flawless gameplay.
I dont think it deserved the title "game of the year". But it should definitely be considered the most innovative game. I actually feel that COD4 was a better candidate for the "game of the year" award.
Not sure if it deserved game of the year only because I haven't played every single other game that was released. IMO it's a fantastic game
Loved the humor and the boss fight was very enjoyable. Games like Bioshock were a great experience but I felt cheated at the final boss which for me dims the enjoyment of the regular levels and regular baddies. From my perspective Portal deserves a lot of accolades if not GOTY.
