Is the PS3 slim compatible with Wireless N routers using N only?

Pretty sure it is. One of my mates has this setup going. His PS3 is in his room while the router is in the living room. Should be cool.

No, that's incorrect. The PS3 only supports 802.11b or g, so N-Only mode is a No-go. If you have a wireless-N router, it needs to be set to "Mixed" or "Mixed-BG" mode or the PS3 won't connect to it, much less see the SSID.

Just to add my 2 cents, there is also a "wireless G only" mode in many routers.

you could setup a repeater and then wire it to the ps3, its alot more expensive than it worth though lol.

I switched from "Super G" to "N" and it's working better than ever, and I don't remember changing to any "mixed" setting. I just used the defaults and it's fine.

edit: oh, I don't know about "N only" though. Why do that?

All routers that offer N are also broadcasting a G signal. If you notice a huge difference after changing to N then the problem you had was your router and now you have a better one.

Man why do people like you say anything to make a post? His PS3 can't connect to the network if his router is set to only "N" because the PS3 has a built in B,G wireless card. The only console supporting "N" wifi is the 360 with it's adapter. So he'll need to leave his router to cover the b,g spectrum.

Well I wanted to know because N and G mixed mode bottlenecks the network since it's supposed to run only as fast as the slowest speed or something. I could be wrong but thanks for the info I just wanted to know if they put it in the new ones.

I wouldn't worry about bottlenecks when useing both modes. With some newer routers there are firmware updates that can fix many of the bottlenecks and allow for some really nice tweaks to the network.

No, the wifi built in is not compatible with N signals. The PS3 can't do that, but I believe you can purchase a wireless N adapter for your PS3.
