Im looking to get a fat PS3, I have a slim and a 80gb already, but Im thinking on getting rid of my Slim and getting a bigger PS3. I prefer the bigger PS3's. I try to baby my 80gb because it runs so hot and I don't want a yellow light. So my Slim gets the bulk of my attention. I have a good feeling about the 40gb but I figured I would ask the users what they thought. Any useful info would be great, thank you.

Im not looking for B/C because my 80 covers that. 2 USB ported fat PS3's is what Im interested in.

I traded in my 360 for a 40 GB PS3 and it's working great so far. Dunno how much it's been used before. But I've heard those with 4 USB slots are the best. Those models also have backward compatibility. They're hard to come by though.

I already have one, they run hot, and are most prone to the yellow light of death. I try to baby mine and Im tired of that. I will admit owing a 4 USB 80gb PS3 is pretty sweet. My little sister's 60gb is better, runs cooler too.

I know a lot of people have had issue with the original fats, but I haven't really had any at all. I purchased mine in 2007 and still play it at least 10 hours a week. Not only that, but I have 3 other friends with original fats that are still going strong this long after launch.

From everything I've read, the 80GB (non backwards compatible) model they were selling before the slims came out is the most reliable. Which just happens to be the one I've got ;)

You can always get the extra two years of warranty from Sony for $60 if you're worried about it.

The more recent 80GB models- ie, non BC and 160GB models should be the most reliable. From least to most reliable it seems to go 60/20 >>> 40/80(BC) >>> 80(non BC)/160 >>> slims.

The last phat will be, as the die has been shrunk and produces less heat which helps it last longer. Also its the latest model so its gonna be newer anyway.

Which one do you have the Motorstorm or the MGS4 bundle one? I know they are suppose to be the same but I have read that they started changing the size of the chips in the MGS4 bundle. I have 2 MGS4 80gbs and they run fine. I bought both new and have had one for 2 years and another for just over a year(I use this one alot since it is in my bedroom). Why not go with the latest ones(phat models)which would be another 80gb(2 usb ports) or a 160gb model(uncharted bundle).

The mor it does the more likely it is to get ylod. The 20/60/80gb all had the most features (20gb didnt have wifi tho) they also run the hottest l other then that all phats have less features but run cooler however of the phats the later 80gb (without b/c or the 160gb run the coolest0.

I bought my 40gb version in summer 2008 and it has had no problems whatsoever. I guess if it ever dies, it'll be a blessing and a curse, since I'll have an excuse to get a slim, but will also have to shell out more money.

I bought a Ps3 PHAT 80gb back in 2008 and its by far the best console I ever had but after a year and a half I started experiencing loud overheating fan noises so I traded it in during April and bought myself a Ps3 SLIM 120gb. Now my gaming is even more fun :) No noise at all and it stays very cool.

I loved my PHAT Ps3 but I was concerned about the overheating issue, whether it was just mine or others had experienced it. I live in the UK and its not very hot and my room was very cool so I don't know what caused it.

I'd say just keep your Slim. They seem to be more reliable.

If you have to buy a Phat, probably the 80GBs or 160GBs are best. The 60GBs are dropping all over the place. The 20GBs never seemed that reliable to begin with, and then on top of that there's no Wi-fi. Of course if your like me and don't need Wi-Fi the 20GB might be a good option.

I had a 40GB and it was a giant P.O.S. so I can't really recommend it, but then again mine might have just been a problem child.

I have an 80 gig that I've had since Christmas 2007. This thing is a trooper. It's gone through some long days and nights of gaming with very few issues. Maybe I'm just lucky. It did have a problem when I kept it in a tight space, but i just moved it into a more open area and it has been fine.

If your fat needs to be babied and it's for PS2 games why not just have a PS2? Also you know what went down a few months back where fats were all temporarily out of service.

I still have my 40GB, and it appears to be working as well as the day I bought it.

My 60 gb lasted 2 years, so i got a 160 gb that was bundled with Uncharted. I've had it for a year and 3 months, and its still quiet but gets HOT.

my 40 gig lasted a long time untill i sold it and bought a slim, though it was getting a bit hot and loud towards the end. i dont think the hard drive space has anything to do with it, just keep the slim and use the money for games.
