Topic. Just wanted to know because people are posting various PS3 problems including the "yellow light of death" more often. Also, is the "Yellow Light of Death" something that I should be worried about?

Well supposedly around the 8-12% but most people that are getting the Yellow light of death are people who either have it in closed spaces, don't take care of it, or run it for 15 hours straight. Though i'm not saying all people that it happens to is their fault just alot of them are. I wouldn't worry about it unless you have a tendency not to take care of things.

Supposedly it's 1-3% percent failure rate. I think the ylod had to do with the hard disc drive not the system itself.

Actually I don't have the numbers off my head right now. I too remember reading an article but a different one that reported a 1% failure rate. But you could always double check on google. Just make sure the source is a good one and not a fanboyish one.

next to none... lol yah i remember reading it was like nothing like below 3% which if u think about it is quite small compared to "other" consoles where u have to send it on a 360 trip back to the company everyso often its become a routine...

Not as high as these posts. lol 1 to 3% facts. 60 is still around 25 to 30%. Although you know them. They wont confirm it. And if you work their "and say anything" your under strict orders not to. Wounder why?

Many of the ppl reporting the yellow light of death are just 360 fanboys trying to make the failure rate look higher than it is. Dont worry about your PS3 dying on you. My 6 year old brother abuses mine all the time and part of it broke off when it dropped but it still runs perfectly. If you have a 360, that's what you should be worrying about.

the failure rate is highest on the 20gb and 60gb's that is why they made the 40gb and the 80gb, they didn't need to upgrade the HDD you can just install a new one, it was because of the failure rate.

I'd have to agree. none of my friends have had their's die... and I don't know anyone personally who's experienced failure. imo the failure ratio isn't existant.
1% sounds right to me. it could be higher though.

yeah... I'm pretty sure that the 60GB is still the best SDK out there... it costs the most to produce. They just made the 40s and 80s (with emulation) to cut costs.

from what i've read, it affects mostly newer shipments. which would most likely be the 40gb and 80gb. haven't read any on 60gb. *knocks on wood.*

On one of the gameinformer issues, sony said that the ps3 has only 0.02% failure rate, hard to believe but it's true. I was expecting 3%...

I read some thing down by eb games and they recorded the number of faulty units returned for each console and for them PS3 and Wii had a less then 3% failure rate I believe with 360 having a 36%, as far as other platforms go I'm not sure, I don't play anything on different platforms then the ones I just mentioned, except some PC games.

well i had a 360 a while back, and the only thing i got was problem.. but i got the ps3 is runs with no problem... but than again it also depends on the user as well... if they take care of there system or not... the problem i have with 360 was it keep on breaking down on me , so i traded it in for a ps3, and the only problem i have with the ps3 is lack of DLC stuff... other than that, the ps3 is smooth and worth it, and also did i tell ya everything almost free.
