BD-Live requires that a Blu-ray player have 1 GB of internal storage and an internet connection. The PS3 has a hard drive and obviously can get on the net. With these things, a BD-Live movie can access the internet to download addition content like video and pictures and store them on the hard drive. In other words, it gives you access to new "extras" after the disc has been released.
HD DVD has this feature since day one. Transformers had it and it was pretty lame. I expect similar lameless on Blu-ray. Then again, I've never been into extras. So, I probably have a slanted view.
It allows for extra content to be downloaded from the internet. And sense Sony has a good number of movie studios this could mean that they could provide a much better service than HD DVD had because they really didn't own any part of movie studios.
The main thing is we have to realize it will take time to get this service working up to par.
