I was browsing through google images for some funny gifs and I cam across the arnold gif. When I saw it, it reminded of the gamespot forums and how many people had this in their signature. Just the thought makes me laugh so hard. Then I saw the PS3 prototype "boomerang" controller, and I had noticed that I had completely forgotten about that controller! Just looking back at all the pics and all the old forums of people bashing it makes me laugh. What are your guys thoughts? Would you of still bought it if Sony released the boomerang?

It wouldn't have been very practical and holding it looks like it would have been awkward.

Yes, I would still have purchased it as its still basically the same controller. But... I would have weeped at its ugliness every time I played a game.

To me, at least by looking at it, the triggers and the L1/R1 buttons would be kinda awkward to use.

I would have bought it in a heartbeat. Anyone who spent any considerable length of time in Burnout or R2 would appreciate the positioning of the shoulder buttons.

I'm with you on this one, the controller was actually really small and from what I've seen it was perfect in the hand of users. Honestly, why scrapping an idea before even trying it?

The Wii controller is a boomerang, except it doesn't return to your hand once it's in flight.

I've never been a fan of the dualshock design. So at least part of me wishes that they had gone with the boomerang, and not chicken out just because people were criticizing something they had never used before.

PS is my brand so i'd have still got it, but i'm oh so glad they kept the basics of the original. that boomerang didn't look like it belonged with the ps3, ya know?

We would have less people complaining about it compared to the DS3/Sixaxis and more people praising the Boomerang (than the DS3/Sixaxis) after the initial jokes faded.

I almost guarantee that that controller would have felt better in most people's hands even if it does look awkward.

And yes I'm being serious

I think it would be an epic fail, if they went with the Boomerang. It looks so ugly and the shape is just bad designing, the SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 looks much more comfortable and practical. Also, if the Boomerang was out, I would never have even thought of buying a PS3.

The first time I ever saw that thing I honestly thought "Oh wow, that looks interesting" (positively). I never had a problem with it. When they ended up going with the DS3 I just thought "Oh, ok then. Fine with me!"

Imagine playing COD4 with that... "I can't run and shoot! It hurts too much!" Still, a $60 ps2 controller with a shiny button in the middle isn't too cool either.

the boomerang is way better suited for motion control then the dualshock design, but i think they went the right way specially if you consider the current state of motion control on the ps3 it didn't really work out so its good they didn't go the boomerang route

well we really have no choice but to deal with the boomerang controller if they went with that coz ofcorse how are we gonna play games w/o a boomerang or the now existing ds3. actually i am thinking about the same thing what if they went with that instead of the ds3. looks very cool but feels awkward and uncomfy to use. i'm still wishing that they release it sometime just for the curiosity, and it's so cool looking.

I wish they did go along with the Boomerang, but just offer it as an accessory along side the DS3. To me it looks very comfortable and suits the look of the PS3 more, I would definitely buy one.

It wouldn't have made a difference since I'd still buy a PS3 regardless of controller design. It might have taken a little getting used to though.

It's not the best looking, but I think Sony gets props for trying something new. Newness seems to be frowned upon in the industry unless it's new fps's... The current conroller is just a ps2 conroller with a dot in the middle and xbox is no different. Props to Nintendo for going out of the box with their innovative conrollers which will forever have a spot in history. I rather have the boomerang now that I think about it because at least it's not a rip-off of a last-gen console.

Yes I woud have got it, cuz I wanted to try it! If you look the buttons are the same material they use for the new PSP Go and the PS button! And it was said to be ergonomic which the Dualshock design lacks, so I really did want to try it, but people cry and whine these days so I never got to :( I wish they released it special edition!

Look at the brightside, if a game ticked you off and you threw the controller, it would come back!!
