so because yours died, that means everyone else's will? lolDoolz2024I think your being a bit harsh. Once I thought my 60gb PS3 was history but I rang Sony and they talked me through how to fix it

So you mean everyday I turn on my 60 gig I roll the dice. HOLY CRAP!!!! Maybe I shouldn't even turn it on.
...after two years of use the launch consoles, particularly the 60GB have been dying due to the YLOD, Yellow Light of Death. Im here to let you all know this is happening, until this morning I was oblivious to this too. The 60GB and 20GB, have both since been discontinued and taken over by new versions, which have not reached two years old. So when these replacements for the 20GB and 60GB get to and over two years old, will they get the YLOD. Sony have never commented on the issue, proving their ignorance, even though this is a widespread issue which will only increase as PS3's older. Mine died too, as well as my friends, as well as a couple people on my PSN friends list. Not to mention every time I come to this board there are topics saying people's PS3's have died.
mine has never died, or even considered dying for that matter. Those who are affected by the YLoD should get an extended warrenty (1 Year) from sony instead of a 90 day. Sk8ter_213I had a PS3 well beyond the warranty, wouldn't read discs. I emailed sony, they told me to take it to xtravision where I bought, and they gave me a new one from the store, no questions asked.

Dang my warranty only covers bumped elbows, guess im out of luck. But in all seriousness it doesn't happen to everyone stop trying to make a huge deal out of it.Warning to all people who walk :

To be honest there have been lots of PS3 deaths at the moment and am very aware mine could be next.
Nothing lasts forever.
Mine used to freeze up occasionally, I found out why
So now I put my PS3 in a wide open space when its running and its doesnt seem to freeze anymore
oh dear. Please leave. Youve posted like 10 threads about this. shabab12
Ya these YLOD threads are getting old. I don't know how many I've seen, but it's way to many.

i think u just need to take better care of you system. i own a 20 GB that i have had since launch, and it is working just fine. and i use my PS3 A LOT!
so i dont think the older systems are becoming defective.
You can't just call it the yellow light of death; there's already the red ring of death. People need to be more creative. But yeah, I got mine December of 06 and it's never given me any problems. You might also wanna warn people against breathing underwater and trying to counsel marriages between rabid wolverines. That should work out nicely....
so because yours died, that means everyone else's will? lolDoolz2024exactly, mine been purchasd since launch 2006 60GB ps3 and its been workin fine till this day and i still take good care of it, but electronics break down its normal, but like droolz said just cuz urs died dosnt mean everyone else will
I'm on my 3rd 20gig.
First one was a lens issue(It wouldn't read any disc media), second one was ylod(earlier this year).
Now I have my PS3 far away from any kind of heat generating device, covered when its not in use, and I have it sitting on its side rather than laying flat. We'll see if this works or not.

Yea that's not even 3 percent.

My PS3 died too, but it was the 80GB MGS4 bundle PS3, and it wasn't because of YLOD. It was because I put a frozen water bottle(I like my water ice cold.) on top of my TV and an earthquake knocked it off and killed my PS3. Luckily I bought the 2 year warranty, but I feared the PS3 wasn't going to be fixable and I wouldn't get another backwards compatible 80GB PS3. Then I read the warranty and noticed they dont cover "acts of god." So instead of risking having my warranty voided, I just used the receipt to return it and get a new one. (Good thing it had no marks on the exterior, so there was no evidence of abuse.) I ended up trading it in for a 160GB Uncharted: Drake's Fortune bundle(Even though I have no interest in the game at all. I'm actually trying to sell the game unopened for cheap.) with only backwards compatibility with PS1 games. I still kept MGS4 though because the 80GB PS3 wouldn't eject my Persona 3 FES. I had told them MGS4 was stuck in the PS3. (I'm still hoping I don't get any phone calls from KMart/Sony about that. *gulp*) Sadly, I lost all the saved data that was on my previous PS3.(All that hard work gone :() I miss my old PS3 and it's backwards compatibility with PS2 games, 4 USB ports, and card readers. I just might have to invest some more money into getting a backwards compatible 80GB PS3 off Ebay or at GameStop.
But that really sucks for PS3 owners getting YLOD, especially if the warranty has expired and it's Sony's fault it got YLOD. :(
Atleast the PS3 has it easy compared to the problems Xbox 360 has been facing, like RROD and E74
