just bought the game on the back it says hdtv support(720p) however the game does scale to 1080i/p, so whats the deal? why dont they write 1080i/p support on the back? it can be very misleading, same case with ratchet and clank i disabled 720p and the game scaled to 1080, would this be the hardware scaling the game?

its an upscaled res not the native. uncharted's native res is 720p and i think it better if the game is played at its native resolution. upscaling ususally makes the img. quality worse imo. ND themselves said if u have a tv that can display all three modes ie 720p, 1080p/i u shud play it at 720p for the best visual experience. just my 2cs, correct me if im wrong.

That would be misleading. If it says 1080p on the back, that's supposed to indicate that 1080p it the native output. Your PS3 can scale any image up to 1080p, including standard definition DVDs.

so what about all those games that have 1080i/p listed in the back, im almost 100% sure they aren't 1080p native either.

I can only assume that those games have been somehow optimized for upscaling, meaning that the game doesn't rely solely on the PS3's built-in software upscaling feature. Just a wild guess.

Several current games do truly support a native 1080p resolution. However, that doesn't guarantee better graphics. Full Auto 2 and Virtua Tennis are two particularly unfortunate examples.

Just because Blu-Ray Discs have more than enough space on them to allocate True-HD games (1080p and up) does not mean the hardware that runs them can actually keep up with the hardware specifications the 1080p and up resolutions demand from the console. That's like having a low-end CPU/GPU PC with a 500GB SATA drive : it has enough space to place HD media and next-gen games on it, but it doesn't have the power necessary to run them at a stable performance rate.

Why does some 360 games have it labeled as 1080p on the back then? If the 360 can do it the PS3 can.

well thats cause thats not the native resolution its just upscaled to support 1080p. for example cod4 is 1066x600 4xAA. but upscaled to 720p/1080i/1080p

native resolutions are rarely ever stated offically, it takes expereienced people to manually count pixels. ya and most blu-ray movies are 1080p just check the back it will show you the resolution the movie is in. however FF advent children was 720p i think.

Hmm interesting. I didnt know that. Do you think if I played Uncharted in 720p instead of 1080p, it will solve all the screen tearing issues or is that because of the game itself?
