I've played almost all of the highly rated ones (I won't count Daxter since I couldn't get into it) this would be my list. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (Excellent portable action adventure, great story and gameplay, controls have a steep learning curve and aren't that great) Tekken: Dark Resurrection (Perfect Arcade Port, Amazing Graphics for a handheld, Controls are excellent but diagonals take a while to get used to) Lumines (The most addicting puzzler in a while. Looks great, sounds great plays even better) Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (GTA on a handheld and everything is there. Camera is annoying sometimes but overall just an amazing acheivement) Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters (Good old Ratchet game that's portable. Graphics are stellar, still has the standout weapons and although frustrating at times the control scheme works since it was made for the PSP) Other Games you should get for sure: Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror Burnout Legends or Burnout Domintaor Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories Loco Roco Wipeout Pure Ridge Racer

AM I the only PSP owner that couldn't get into MGSPO?  I played for about an hour and just hated the controls.

Anyway, back to topic:

1) GTA VCS
2) GTA LBS
3) Lumines
4) DBZ Shin Budokai
5) Tales of Eternia

I was actually pretty disappointed at MGS PO as well. I only somewhat liked it cause I'm a MGS fan. The graphics and sound were awesome, but I couldn't stand having to recruit noob enemies and sorting through them. MGS is all about solo, not cooperative teamwork. I was a REAL MGS, not an attempt at something new.

Agreed. It's wacky and weird but that's a good thing. Love the art style and the music and the gameplay is simple yet addicting.

Lol I still hate the controls but after adapting to them the game gets a lot better. It couldn't understand the hype first either.

To OP choose a good mix. My list has a puzzler, platformer, fighter and two action games. You may want to replace MGS or GTA with a racer if you are a racing fan since racing games are by far the best genre on the PSP.

Ace Combat X

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

Daxter

Killzone: Liberations

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror

Those are some of the nicest PSP games out there. Tekken: DR, Burnout, Loco Roco, Exit, and the Socom games will probably please anyone with a PSP, too.

since you said you were on a budget... Lumines 2 is worth the $20 price tag. The rest were already listed but those are all around $40 if that's considered budget titles to you...

i have lumines and love it, is part 2 really that much different and worth getting>? IMO, wipeout pure is the best psp game easily. I just picked up VP L for 10 bucks and I am going on vacation so i will start it then. Also looking to pick up ace combat or burnout.

battle front 2 is a good one

if you like hockey games get NHL 07, not any of the gretzky NHLs

the GTA games are good (both) i just got WTF work time fun, some of the games are dumb, but addictive, it was worth the $20

also you should get socom 1 and/or socom 2. socom 2 is better. i know those games have online multiplayer

burnout legends is a fun race game, but it could be a lot better. if you like the sims get the sims 2

if your a marvel fan get x-men legends, its an ok game

need for speed most wanted is very fun

MX vs ATV unleashed is fun, kind of boring tho but i still reccomend it

part 2 is basically the same thing but with music videos in the background (they don't work). Wipeout is good but not he best game on the psp. Get burnout over ace combat though.
