no sorry the 40 version how no BC i it still baffles my to why not.
im lucky i bought mine at launch so i have a 60 gb version and i too want to play FF i think i will play 10
So, I have a 40 gig PS3, meaning I have no BC :( Does that mean that there is absolutely no way that I cant play any final fantasy game? Im really in the mood to play a FF game and without the BC I dont see how I can play it..is there any FF game I may not know about or anyway you guys can tell me how I can play one? Thanks for the help.SRC_319
you can play any PS1 game on it, just not ps2.
You can't play PS1 games on it either.sony_vaio
Yes you can ps1 games is compatible, it just that ps2 isnt on the 40 gig, you can play ps1 games though.
Thanks for all the replies. But now im just a bit confused, I have some people telling me I can play ps1 games and then someone else says I cant..does anyone have the same PS3 as me and know the actual answer? I know I can just look it up but I figure we're all here so if anyone has the answer that would be great. Thanks again for your help.SRC_319
I have the same ps3 as you man, at first i didnt know what was the difference between the gigs, i didnt think they would be much of a difference between the 40 gig ps3, or the 80 gig, boy was i wrong lol, and when i found out it wasnt ps2 compatible, it was about a week or two later, oh well though, ima probably get a ps2 once my next paycheck comes in lol :D
dont listen to sony viao.. either he/she doesnt have a clue what they're saying or he's jus messing w/ you. PS1 games are playable on 40G ps3. also ps2 are pretty cheap if u wanna play them so jus get a ps2 if u wanna play FF 10/11/12.4NGoods
yea i mean i just played the first version of mgs just a few days ago and it works perfectly fine lol . so you can definetly play ps1 games on the 40 gig , . :D

u my friend are the only person thats wrong on this thread, doesnt play ps1 games? are u kiddin me? i have 60gb and 40gb and the 40gb plays ps1 games, so before u post just take a sec to think about wat u gonna say.......then post it.
Okay thanks, you guys were a lot of help! Depending on when the release date is for FFXIII will really determine if I get a ps2 or not..I just feel like any money I put towards a ps2 would be a waste because that money could be going to a ps3 game or something else. The only game I really want to play on the ps2 would be final fantasy..although if I wound up getting one i'd prolly go back and play some games I missed out on like God of War and Bully..but still like I said, the money I spend on that would be money I could be spending on PS3 stuff or newer stuff ya know?
Thats another thing, for any of you FF fans that posted on here, ya know anything about the release date for 13 yet? I've heard so many dates, but idk what is true and whats not. If anyone has any solid info with links or anything, let me know.
Again, thanks for everyone who responded, big big help!

You can't play PS1 games on it either.sony_vaioEVERYONE LISTEN: ALL PS3s CAN PLAY PS1 GAMES!!! Stop saying they can't. I'm not just targetting you, but a lot of people spread this false info. Sorry Steve, you can only play PS1 games. :(
Well it is a gamble, you can certainly play PS1 games (great titles for it). When it comes to PS2 games either you can A) Buy a PS2, can find some nice ones for dirt cheap or B) Risk waiting for SE to develop full software emulation on PS2 titles, this may or may not happen.
My guess FF13 will probably come out next year for the holiday season since that will be another blockbuster, or else come out in early summer like MGS4 where it wouldn't get over shadowed.
