If your internet is really that bad in terms of download speed against time of completion, then its up to you really. More of a personal decision
Rest mode is great. It goes into a low power, energy efficient mode with less available features so it is safe to leave on for over a day or two. When I do 50gb download games, I do pause the download and shut it down to give it a rest and cool itself. Not an option for your game update but it is safe to go past day or two.
I've had my PS4 since early 2014 and it's been on rest mode pretty much the entire time when not in use. I thought we were supposed to keep it in rest mode and only shut it down when the console needs to be disconnected.

It doesn't waste that much electricity.
You'll be fine.
My PS4s are in rest mode almost all the time.
I have left my PS4 in Rest mode for 1 week. There was no difficulties or problems doing that. PS4 still works like a charm.
I left mine in rest mode all the time without any problems. But recently I've been having power issues. For a while it wouldn't power on, would crash after 30 mins of gameplay, etc. It's working again fine now that I don't let it "sleep" anymore, it's either on or off. I'm not saying it's "bad" to do it, many people probably will never have this problem. But personally, my 6 month old PS4 is not doing well with the whole rest mode thing. I've never liked the idea of leaving an electronic on (rest mode or not) for days or weeks at a time. I think if it's going to be more than 12 hours, just turn it off. I can't say for sure if my power issue has anything to do with rest mode, but after months of using this mode a lot, I no longer do as it has given me a lot of issues. And since I've stopped, it's been working perfectly again. I know this is unrelated (ish) just throwing it out there in case it helps anyone who maybe has had a similar problem
I leave mine in stand by mode for 2-3 days and just pick up the game where I left off. It's pretty handy feature for downloads, updates, installs or just resuming the game at specific point. You should be fine.
For starters what many people don't realize is that when you leave any device that uses internet in rest mode, that console is continuously using up data from the internet!so if you have a cheap internet package or have a huge house hold with many devices connected to the same router or modem you will eventually use up all of your HIGH SPEED data very fast and then your internet will run very poorly!!!
