Updated.

PlayStation Vita is out in Japan – we're all pretty jealous. Comparison images of PSP games running on PSP versus running on PS Vita have already begun to surface.

Let's take a look at Final Fantasy Type-0 and Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.

Which do you think looks better? PSP or PS Vita?

Square Enix has confirmed that PSP game Final Fantasy Type-0 will, when played on a Vita, make use of the second analogue stick.

Type-0 director Hajime Tabata said at a recent consumer event in Japan that the game will allow for additional camera control with the Vita's right analogue stick.

That's good news, but more importantly it confirms the potential for PSP games to feature enhanced controls on the Vita.

We wouldn't expect touch screen functionality to magically appear in PSP games, but it should mean that dual-analogue controls will be possible - at least in PSP games that support the use of a DualShock 3 (since twin stick functionality would already be in those titles).

He also responded to questions of a possible sequel. "I want to make a sequel, but... is there demand?" he asked. "If we make a sequel, we aren't thinking about having it directly continue the [Type-0] story."

The last two images for Monster Hunter look pretty nice. I say the vita has a sharper image, while the psp has this yellowish hue to set the mood of the surroundings.

The difference is there - a better sharpness and a better contrast in some cases... but quite frankly... to me it honestly isn't all that much. The screen size is small when comparing it to a television screen or a computer monitor and especially since the PSP's graphics capability was already pretty solid (especially given its size), the move to the Vita whose screen isn't much bigger than the PSP doesn't really show much difference. It's sort of like printing out a 4 x 6 photograph at 300 dpi vs 400 dpi - you ONLY have a certain amount of real estate with which to see the photograph on and at some point, any additional enhancements don't really make much of a difference (sometimes, if any).

The differences are quite obvious but not as much as I'd hope.

I think the difference is pretty clear and much better than I imagined.

I would expect that PSvita versions of games would be better than PSP versions. I would be worried if that was so.

So at least Sony is still supporting the PSP since it will take a while for PSvita to take over.

I would say it looks more colorful but is clearer on the Vita.

Yeah, you could put it like that Then again those pictures were taken by a camera, so the true quality of both systems is not really shown, as an aproximate it looks ok

Coolyfett was having the same mental visions while reading this thread. The PSP & PSV are different screens with different backlit systems.

That's a good question. I for one will pick up Monster Hunter Portable 3rd in english if I can get it. I've played it already on PSP, and it's a great game. Hopefully we will get an NA release of both games.
