I think Sony would greatly increase their sales again if they brought back Backwards Compatibility (PS2 Compatible games)

But yeah, anyone else think sony should bring back the ability to play PS2 games on the PS3?

I do plain and simple. And I believe that they will one day.It seems like Sony loves making brand new versions of the same console yet can't give us Backwards compatibility.

Sony has to do software emulation so all PS3's are backward compatible.

I was really surprised that Sony took out BC even though the PS2 is still doing very well. What bothers me is that Sony didn't use the PS2 CPU for anything. When the PS2 was BC with the PSone, the PSone CPU was used as an I/O controller. I think Sony could've used the PS2 CPU to control the OS instead of wasting a core of the CELL to run it.

I play God of War 2 all the time on my PS3 and it looks great upscaled to 720p. Shadow of the Colossus looks great too. I'd hate it if I didn't have a bc PS3.

I can honestly say that I have never used backwards compatibility on my PS3. PS2's are cheap, probably cheaper to buy a PS2 than to buy a PS3 with backwards compatibility. And watching SD after a couple years of playing HD resolution games just hurts my eyes.

I think Sony will bring BC to the ps3 through emulation. Theres a option on the game column on the ps3 interface for ALL ps3s - u can create a memory card for ps1 AND PS2 game - this gives a tiny clue possibly of BC, i think they are planning some sort of ps2 emulation.

Backward compatibility's day is done. All of the "clues" are just remnants from where older models could do it. Every system runs on the same firmware.

Doesn't anyone realize that Sony still wants people to buy PS2's? Hence no BC.

Again, though...if you want BC, hunt down a 60GB or original 80GB PS3. There's tons on amazon and ebay to be had.

They did offer BC at the beginning. People cried about the price and when Sony took some features out to make the console cheaper, those same people cried about the lack of BC. The option was available at the onset so you can't say they didn't offer it especially when PS2 is still selling for a fairly cheap price.

Yeah people did cry about the Price. But sony did not have to remove BC to lower the price. They act as if BC was the reason the PS3 was placed at such a high price. And people cried about the price because look at what they got.The got a console that was 600 bucks that had hardly any games,at the time there was no in game messaging, and even when the damn console got games the multiplats were always lacking in some way.Heck people once they got their PS3 back then probably played more PS2 titles on it then PS3.It was no the BC.It was Sony's stupid mistakes that made it like that.

If Sony would make the 40GB PS3 $300 and the 80GB $400 with BC and hit game like Resistance 1, Uncharted, or Ratchet and Clank, they would be ok. Better yet they could offer 2 greatest hits games of choice. They need better advertising. Even though the PS3 is at a fair price now, it still needs to come down due to the economic crisis in America. The arcade 360 pretty much is crap, but when joe shmoe walks into a store and sees 80% of the software on PS3 is also available on the $200 system then which one do you think he will buy? If Killzone 2 and God of War 3 don't live upt to what they are supposed to be, than the PS3 might be in danger of becoming a dreamcast.

What would you have them remove instead to lower it? They could have opted not to put in blu ray, but then MGS 4, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, and Killzone 2 would have had to be reworked.

Yep.Which is too bad for the rest of us.Sony was suppose to find ways to to manage price but keep improving the console. No they took the easy way out and just started pulling things out of the console to lower the price.

See the funny thing is a lot of people complain that the Blue Ray player on it sucks, they should have just taken that out. I love to go on ebay or other websites and see people selling broken ones that say "Blue Ray player doesn't work well/Broken"

well for those who want Backwards Compatibility so bad, why don't you find yourself a 20GB or 60GB off eBay or simply just buy a PS1 or PS2 console. Sony will stop making PS2 games soon so theres no point of adding B/C now.

Well lets see here. For the people that want BC,we already spent 400-500 bucks on a 40,80 or 160 gig so why would we want to buy another PS3 for a feature that it should already have.B.I have a PS2,but switching between consoles gets tires some and once again my 400 dollar 40 gig should be able to do it.C.There will always be classic PS2 games to play regardless of whether they stop getting made.I may want to play FF12 or Kingdom hearts 2 on my PS2.or some out of the blue PS2 game that came out 3 years ago.

No what would be better is more PS2 downloads for the PS3. Backwards Compatibility was a chrutch that the PS3 needed when it first came out so it would have a nice selection of games cause there were very few when, and for a while after, it came out. Now that it is established. I think Sony needs to move foward making more PS3 games.

All of you who are complaining about the lack of backward compatibility could've had it if you would have bought a 60 GB version when the system was released and yes this statement is geared towards all of you PS3 haters that have been converted.

I think the reason that Sony took out BC is that it cut down the manufacturing cost. Less manufacturing cost means less money lost on every system and eventually provide profit, which will lead to future price drops. Also alot of people still have PS2's and games are still being made for it so they don't think BC is really necessary. Then again, arguments can be made that alot of stuff in the PS3 is unecessary for gaming. Who knows what Sony is thinking?

Yeah but if there are PS2 games on the PS store they would have no choice but to come out with a firmware update so that these games can be played on all the new consoles.Sony can move forward and focus on the games for their console...but they can also focus on that firmware update. You can't possible tell me they can't do both.I mean look at Microsoft. They came out with update after update bringing B/C to the 360,and still managed to make sure their console got good next gen games aswell.

All of you who are complaining about the lack of backward compatibility could've had it if you would have bought a 60 GB version when the system was released and yes this statement is geared towards all of you PS3 haters that have been converted.wcbballkid

There was absolutely no way I was going to pay 500-600 dollars on a single console. I didn't even want to pay $400, which is one reason I ultimately got a used system.
