Sony has to do software emulation so all PS3's are backward compatible.
I was really surprised that Sony took out BC even though the PS2 is still doing very well. What bothers me is that Sony didn't use the PS2 CPU for anything. When the PS2 was BC with the PSone, the PSone CPU was used as an I/O controller. I think Sony could've used the PS2 CPU to control the OS instead of wasting a core of the CELL to run it.
I think Sony will bring BC to the ps3 through emulation. Theres a option on the game column on the ps3 interface for ALL ps3s - u can create a memory card for ps1 AND PS2 game - this gives a tiny clue possibly of BC, i think they are planning some sort of ps2 emulation.joshim982003
there is also somthin on the psn store to down load some to play ps2 games but it wont work on the 40 gig ps3 and i guess also the new ps3s so maybe sony will make it for every ps3
Backward compatibility's day is done. All of the "clues" are just remnants from where older models could do it. Every system runs on the same firmware.bdhoffPeople said the same thing about alot of things. We the people have faith that it will come back and IT WILL.
Doesn't anyone realize that Sony still wants people to buy PS2's? Hence no BC.
Again, though...if you want BC, hunt down a 60GB or original 80GB PS3. There's tons on amazon and ebay to be had.
I do plain and simple. And I believe that they will one day.It seems like Sony loves making brand new versions of the same console yet can't give us Backwards compatibility.K1LLR3175They did offer BC at the beginning. People cried about the price and when Sony took some features out to make the console cheaper, those same people cried about the lack of BC. The option was available at the onset so you can't say they didn't offer it especially when PS2 is still selling for a fairly cheap price.

I think this is one of the few times in electronic history where being an early adopter actually paid off: original 60GB sku > restnavstar29Yep.Which is too bad for the rest of us.Sony was suppose to find ways to to manage price but keep improving the console. No they took the easy way out and just started pulling things out of the console to lower the price.

[QUOTE="Jockss2"]umm..i have backwards compatibility on my ps3...i have the 60 gig from day 1...K1LLR3175Great for you......
And myself ..
True especially about economy, but Sony needs to make money to so there is no way they are going to announce a price cut any time soon, but then again what do I know.....I do know this.Sony loves to make different versions of the same console.I mean look in only two years sony has had...A 20 gig,60 gig,80,gig,40 gig, another 80 gig,and 160 gig console.Come on.Make the damn firmware update already Sony.K1LLR3175
well for those who want Backwards Compatibility so bad, why don't you find yourself a 20GB or 60GB off eBay or simply just buy a PS1 or PS2 console. Sony will stop making PS2 games soon so theres no point of adding B/C now.Sk8ter_213

Then those people don't want BC bad enough to complain about it ..
I think Sony would greatly increase their sales again if they brought back Backwards Compatibility (PS2 Compatible games)
But yeah, anyone else think sony should bring back the ability to play PS2 games on the PS3?eaglesfan534
No what would be better is more PS2 downloads for the PS3. Backwards Compatibility was a chrutch that the PS3 needed when it first came out so it would have a nice selection of games cause there were very few when, and for a while after, it came out. Now that it is established. I think Sony needs to move foward making more PS3 games.

Perfectly said ..
HAHAHAHAHAHA envy me in all my "20gig SKU with PS2 hardware" glory!!!!:lol:warrner11
And you still envy me and my 60GB .. ;)
[QUOTE="Scianix-Black"]So who here still has a PS2?
I do!
:]

I have one inside my PS3 .. ;)
I'd do that too, but I fear my warranty will be void if I do it.
All of you who are complaining about the lack of backward compatibility could've had it if you would have bought a 60 GB version when the system was released and yes this statement is geared towards all of you PS3 haters that have been converted.wcbballkid

There was absolutely no way I was going to pay 500-600 dollars on a single console. I didn't even want to pay $400, which is one reason I ultimately got a used system.
